WTF is that about.
They're imposing temporary restrictions on units to rebalance things?
It's like they're deliberately leaning into "this unit will only be OP for 3 months, because by that time the next codex will be out that's even worse, so it'll be okay to spam them again".

I guess ork players won't feel so singled out anymore.
'Screw you, you just can't' is the balancing mechanism going forward. Dark gods forbid Tau players use more than one of their signature unit!
Well. I guess mechanized Guard armies are ALSO out. Because reasons.
I was going to buy an updated chimera kit, but I've got three old ones already, so I can't field any more...

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

Definitely clunky, but a bit better than changing points constantly. It'd be better for them to not have to do it in the first place.

That made me laugh.
Like, do they genuinely think Baneblades will get any use out of this, or are they just trying to be cool and memeing?

People often say that GW is focused on 'the competitive game' these days and that their rules skew towards competitive players.
The reason for this? GW's rules don't seem to favor narrative or hobby players so narrative and hobby players assume that it must be because they are benefiting competitive players. Surely if it's bad for 2 of the 3 player groups the reason must be that it's good for the 3rd?
These changes are a perfect example of the reality: It's not good for competitive players either.
They're making rules no one wants and changes nobody benefits from for reasons that are utterly nonsensical.

Monkeys Paw. Competitive 40k gets so bad that eventually, the only usable units are Stompas, Baneblades, Lords of Skulls, and Monoliths.

It would probably help a LOT more if they'd go ahead and give them the 2+ save that they should already have in the first place. And a considerable points reduction. Maybe they should be using these "balance slates" to actually balance things, instead of just sticking them in the Forbidden Zone until they actually get around to doing that.

What do they thing limiting crisis suits and crisis suit bodyguard to 0-1 is going to do? Most people who were taking them were taking large units they could turbo buff into the stratosphere, not maxing out on 3 of each. The only top placing list I've seen that's affect by that is Richard Seigler's.
What are they doing?!

I think GW management have learned that "fast rule updates" are something the community wanted. However they don't have the team/skills/budget to the team to actually make sensible rules and thus sensible fast changes. So they are kind of throwing things at the wall to come up with ideas that "sound" like a neat idea.
Ergo you've got a manager throwing narrative rules at the competitive/general users which kind of results in this ham-fisted situation where no one really wants them. Narrative players come up with their own; competitive want balance not random and everyone else is just kinda stuck.

Then why not release the points right now ? For free ?
I feel like no one thought of that when they asked for a "living game". I can't help but feel like it's not asking too much to expect balance decisions to not be pants on head stupid.

If this is real, it is poorly thought out.
Limiting dedicated transports to 2-4 as a blanket rule has disparate effects across different factions, much like if someone noticed characters were powerful and decided that there should be a blanket limit of 2-4 per army- it will effect different armies differently.
In the case of Drukhari, they don't have non dedicated transports so this takes away the iconic raiders in light transports and will leave just the Talos/cronos/grotesque build for them by default.
Simply removing Trajann is a poor fix, they could have made it so general captain keyword was included as the rule about shield captains- making it so you cannot take a shield captain in the same detachment as Trajann.
These changes from GW are poorly thought out.

I hope this isn't real, because approaching a tabletop wargame as if though it was a TCG like Magic the Gathering is a HUGE difference when you invest so much time building and painting models versus simply buying the next expansion for card sets. This really just punishes a person for playing a faction rather than addressing the root core issues which lays down with the army or datasheet ruleset itself, which should be way easier to tweak compared to doing hamfisted "NOPE" limitations. It was bad enough for us Ork players, it's not something that should be applied to the game as a whole.

Like noticing that Ork Flyers are OP, and thus limiting all flyers for everyone?
It's exactly the sort of knee-jerk, ham-fisted, and utterly misguided solution that GW uses to broadcast how deeply their rules writers care about balance.

Yes, like that. As an ork player I disliked the buggy changes and blanket flyer changes, but seeing more blanket changes is concerning as an insight into the quality of rules decisions coming from GW. They have made a game with varying factions that are supposedly balanced internally within that faction, and blanket changes will end up having unbalanced results across factions.
