Ancient Venerable Dreadnought

My FB Lt has a powerfist & Plasma pistol. Amongst his accomplishments are punching a knight to death causing it to explode, which caused a ton of wounds to about 10 units. Out of those 10 3 were vehicles and 2 blew up.
He made it out unscathed tho

I have two, one with a Power Axe and Bolt Pistol made from a Deathwatch Vet and some spare parts, and another with a Power Fist and a Combi-Melta made from many different kits.
The first is here:

That however is quite an old photo and not 100% what it looks like paint-wise, as I did touch-ups on my earlier paint jobs.

Ultramarine Chaplain with Hate to Spare

2nd from the right, next to the banner guy. Used the little plume bit from a Horus Heresy plastic kit to denote rank. (Captains usually get a full plume). He's got a couple extra bits on him too.
I like Powerfist and the default Master Crafted Bolter, or a Combi-Weapon (Melta these days). I have a magnet in his wrist for swapping weapons.
I have another guy with a Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield and Jump Pack, but he's not painted, so no pics

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

I’ve got 2 firstborn Lts.
His shelf loadout is a JP, power sword and grav pistol. But his arms are magnetized to swap. Mostly Vanguard Vet bits with parts from the UM accessory sprue. Built him in 8th, and went with grav over plas as he was not often hanging out with a captain for re-rolls. And I didn’t have one magnetized yet.
My other is an original RT lieutenant from before they got rid of his spot in the chapter. Armed with a power sword and a MC bolter, because that’s the model. While I didn’t choose the gear, he’s a cheep and cheerful buff bot to hang back with the firebase. If someone comes to mess with his charges, he’s got a sword and is not half bad with it.
The JP is something that normal Lt. offers that you can’t get on a primaris LT. If you want someone to move fast and hand his aura around where it’s needed, something to keep in mind.
With his melee profile it seems a shame not to give him some sort of CC toy. Depending on points/meta anything can work really. I generally default swords, but a lot of that is the Ultramarine and my bits box talking. Also depends what you are planning on hunting. Cashing out troops needs different weapons then going up against characters with an invuln.
Same with guns. Depending on what your list looks like, who he’s hanging with, what you are hunting, etc.
There is also the question of if you are giving him a WL trait a/o a relic. Plus chapter tactics etc.
Barring the JP, I’d avoid the expensive options, but the 5 pointers are probably worth it. Not really a lot of bad options.

I wonder if such things will exist in the new Marine 'Dex.

They just ditched the multipart commander box, which is what I think his “official” model was.
Lts are fancier then a sarge, but not as blinged out as a captain. Bits-box specials. And very vulnerable to no model, no rules.
I suspect that they will just get a mostly copy/paste in the next codex as long as firstborn is still a distinction. They are leaning hard into spamming Lts, but primaris. But as long as the rank and place in the chapter exists, I suspect we’ll have rules to back it up for old marines.
But honestly with GW, it’s a coin toss either way.

Thanks everyone - chatting to a store member might use a sternguard body with robes as a base for this model

From the Codex image, it seemed to just be one of the models from the Command Squad but in reality, it seems to be one of the very few Marine units without an actual "official" model, the other being the Bike Captain which only exists due to the White Scars upgrade sprue which isn't sold anymore.

That's a good shout. The Sternguard kit has loads of really nice parts, it kitted out a load of my Deathwatch and gave me some pads to use for obscure Chapters.

That's why i started the thread as there is no official model to get some ideas - oddly enough i have a bike captain on the old style bike with a crested head from the SM UM upgrade sprue and power sword and other details

The sternguard, vanguard, and chapter upgrade sprues are a great start for a space marine officer project. I’ve done a lot with them.
