The Oldhammer plastic Beaky Space Marines were the first GW miniatures I ever purchased. I'm glad they're being reimagined for 30k, but the Rogue Trader originals are still my favorites.
They were definitely ahead of the curve (yes I feel dirty) when they came out, and even so when I got my mitts on a box circa 199..I wanna say 3?
Sure. They’re kind of low on detail, but the complexity and compatibility was, if memory serves, unheard of at the time. Certainly for 40K, sadly I don’t have the knowledge to comment on other ranges.
Ball socket necks and arms, though I can’t quite recall of the waists were ball socket too? They were pretty posable for sure. And talk about options! Again folk need to keep in mind context, but to be able to build not just Sgt but other character, plus the Missile Launcher and Flamer was entirely new.
Before RTB01, Drastik Plastik was pretty much just body, bonce and shield, and that was about it.
All hail RTB01. A bold, brave and ultimately successful Grand Experiment. ALL HAIL!

Waists were flat, not ball/socket.
I need to work on stripping and cleaning more of my old guys.

Look at how poseable they are! Not like today where the models are all static and such.
I think once more sculptors have access to metrology stuff they can make all the compatible parts they want. But that'll just lead to GW making 1 piece ultra dynamic minis.
RTB-01 is iconic no doubt, but today I much prefer the FW Mk VI resin kit mixed with the plastic firstborn bits.
That flat torso didn't do any favours to RTB-01.
Overall, I prefer the proportions of the upcoming HH plastic kits, but modelling wise the FW kit is my favourite.
