Before Dark Uprising it was in every comment on their Necromunda Social media "When's arbites?" People really had fond memories of these guys being some kind of overpowered faction but that wasn't the case for the new Enforcer.

I haven't made the jump into the Ash Wastes yet, though this Outpost might push me over the edge. Partly depends on price of course.

One question: Would this Outpost plus the Ash Wastes starter set be enough terrain for a decent board? Depends on taste of course, just not sure how densely packed a typical Ash Wastes board is.

That's been my plan. I was going to make some large rocky structures to fill out the rest. The habs provide a lot of elevated terrain for people to run around on but not much blocking/cover on the ground level. You want room for vehicles to maneuver so you don't want the surface real dense, but I think some hard cover would complement the structures nicely.

They really need to include warning labels in those videos. I nearly dislocated my eyeballs rolling them when that AdMech stilt guy flashed on the screen with no notice.

Anyway, the Lady & bird looks pretty darn good, I might pick them up.

Oh wow. That AdMech combat patrol looks like just about every unit I was thinking of getting for an Ash Wastes "gang" of Explorators. I'd just need to add a different Tech Priest and the Grav-y Boat.

From a UK perspective:

Buying the separate components from GW's website will cost me £160. I can buy the same components from a third party seller (all currently in stock when I checked) for less than £120. So the discount will need to be pretty hefty to make it worth buying direct.

That looks to be the same terrain contents as the (185 GBP with two double sized gangs, book, cards and ice) starter box, minus the ZM barricade sprue, plus a single hab extension sprue. I'd pay... barely above the cost of one Extended Hab module for this.

With vehicle you need big space so they can maneuver around. Only need a few raised platform and hab so the ganger can avoid being run over and have some hiding place. Also some interesting mechanic like having ganger fall off into the ground and then got run over.

It's going to look full but have almost no cover on the ground, I'd at the very least add a box of Barricades and Objectives (you get half a box in the starter), preferably some Munitorium Containers or Fronteris habs too.

Oh please. Who doesn't already own a full table's worth of both of those!

Wait... only me?

Ok then...

I really do want to get some of this terrain, but if this is another $400 box like the Nachmund stuff, especially right after the X-Mas Battleforces, then I'll have to give it a miss.

Definitely not just you I think I have two of the newer Fronteris kill zones that came out right after that horribly priced battlezone with just 1 bunker less for half the price, and I make up the difference with an original Fronteris Kill Zone from 2019.

I've been told - or rather strongly hinted at - that the upcoming terrain box won't be as pricey as the Nachmund one.

So I finally got a chance to read The Ruins of Jardlan and it really gives the impression that Delaque are going to be the focus of an upcoming book. I know they said this is the last book in the Aranthian Succession, but if there's a new edition coming or a new campaign arc, I would expect Delaque to get some investment. Fingers crossed, anyway.

The last roadmap for Necromunda that we saw had, IIRC, 3 books, then another box set. We've had the books, now the box next? Possibly featuring Delaque?

If the ending of the latest book hints at anything, it would probably feature Delaque vs Genestealer Cults. That or perchance the “Aranthian Succession” will get its own gang in the new box.

I speculate that it will be Aranthians, personally. Or maybe Spyrers, since they have been directly seen in Ruins of Jardlan.

EDIT: I am actually confused about the GSC in the book. Are they really genestealers or something artificial created by that rogue magos biologus? They call them malstrains, presumably contrasting with purestrain genestealers, but they behave more like stealers than hybrids. I am not sure they have a patriarch, either, so I wonder how/if they are coordinated and if that's why they have been containable so far.

Genestealer cults and feral Orks have both been present on Necromunda from the old lore.

No idea if the genestealer cults are in some way defective, but mainly they have been contained behind a military cordon, as have the Orks in their own region. It is possible that a particular cult outside the cordon is defective and created by said rogue magos.

I think getting some models specific to the Necromunda GSCs and Orks would be a great way of expanding both the lore of Necromunda and the ranges of both factions in 40k.

Maybe Delaque, GSCs, Orks, and Spyrers could feature in a xenos-driven narrative for the next arc

Nice! I dig this. I have always liked the Nexus as a concept, so it's fun to see a scenario set there.

I agree that there are hints that they are not "normal" Genestealers and perhaps don't have a Patriarch. Even the text in the Book of Ruin never explicitly says they have one, I found when I looked back at that. Which would be easy to make consistent with some very, very old lore.

I'm a bit ambivalent about Necromunda moving to having an ongoing storyline to be honest. I like static settings.

I think it's just more of the flavour, like in The Book of Ruin where they don't call the chaos gods by their book names, but nick-names. The everyday schlubs in the Underhive don't have access to all the information that we do.

Wouldn't it actually be a necessity for Necromunda Genestealers to be off somehow if the writers want them to be splintered? Conventionally if there is no Patriach, a Purestrain becomes one eventually. Unless this has changed in the recent fluff?

Sure - that is a quite possible reading of it too. On the other hand there is the whole (paraphrasing, book isn't in front of me) "because of separation from their master, Purestrains are denied to them" thing, which is... kind of not how it's supposed to work? The fourth generation should just give you Purestrains naturally. I'd always thought that text was just a kind of clumsy way to keep cults small in lore and sidestep the idea that there might be a hive fleet en route to destroy the entire setting, and maybe that's exactly what it was. But now with the "Broodspire" and "Malstrain" lore I think they might lean into Hermiatus and the "cure" research from Space Crusade. Which they already hinted about with the Hermaphage Magos, whose lore is also kind of non-standard for GSC. I guess we'll see.

Maybe they're that classic flavour of Chaos-worshipping Genestealer cult, and every aspiring Patriarch just gets sacrificed to Khorne or something.

I think it's a little vague how the Tainted Coil works, but they're also a cult without a clear Patriarch (and happy that way).

They're a little more Umbrella Corp, rather than revolutionaries, with a tendency towards the more monstrous side of things.

Could well be a similar situation here (or even an offshoot of a Tainted Coil branch).
