Specialists like the Van Saar ones would be very plausible for the starter set. Perhaps even the most likely.

I don't think Leaders and Champions is very likely though. Those are generally already included in the existing base sets and the specialist/prospect kits. Plus, as you say, such a kit wouldn't fit well for a starter box.

My sense has always been that GW don't mind the mess that much for this line, and given that a redo of everything is a huge project, they might just muddle through again.

That applies to models too. They have new base gang kits ready (or so they say), but what about the champ/prospect kits, which are often very interchangeable in their components and might not get updates for years? The cleanest way would be to continue with interchangeable components. Fingers crossed!

Possibility they finally bite the bullet and put gangers, leader, juves, champions etc. all on one sprue set, Warcry style.

I think I’d prefer separate Sprues meself. Four half Sprues. One Champion/Leader, two Ganger, one Juves.

I think duplicate sprues is something GW is very hot on right now. It's more economical for them to just be able to spam one layout. It's both been the prevalent Necromunda layout in the gang boxes, and also been the dominant Horus Heresy Tactical Squad display (to mixed approval).

Yeah, you really hit the mark there. It's really just speculation, maybe "explained" is the wrong word for it. His videos are usually pretty informative and engaging about rules and lore, but he sort of is fuelling the rumour-slop economy with this one, even if not completely on purpose.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see after Armageddon's pre orders end.

Even then, theres a non 0% chance the next article will be about the line retiring.

Admittedly I've been spectating from the sidelines regarding Necromunda but, from that perspective, it seems like it has become a bit of an ungainly beast from a rules perspective especially for an ostensibly skirmish level game when those tend to be on the lighter side.

I’m pretty sure bland means unthemed like Hive War.

I kind of expect new House of books as they are as out of date as Gangs of the Underhive was. I just don’t want another core book…

I have to agree with you there. I ultimately don't mind the idea of new House books (I don't own any, but I completely see how it would really feth over people that spend a lot of money on a single book, so it's still a terrible idea either way. Maybe just release free rules until you expand them a bit more)
I'd hate if they released a new Core Rulebook. The existing one is nice enough and is super expensive. Paying that price (60-70 Euro here) for a new book released THREE YEARS after the "current" one is unacceptable, if you ask me.

One thing that makes me think they aren't about to rip it up and start again is that Bastions of Law was eight months ago. Not that it's odd that GW would release rules close to a new edition - I'm not an idiot - but that they would choose to replace the Book of Judgment rules before rather than after that new edition which they must have known was coming.

Yes, it's GW, I don't make that statement with 100% or even 80% confidence, but still, it does push my needle in one direction.

The main thing to bear in mind is that GW need to justify continuing to support Necromunda with sales. Sales of models, or sales of books, or whatever. Since the sale of models is limited, at least compared to a game like 40K, the strategy so far has been to sell as many books as possible.

Invalidating all the existing books and releasing a new edition would certainly help with the objective of selling lots of books. Streamlining the rules by reducing the number of books available would be great, though wouldn’t maximise profit or turnover.

Rereleasing models could work for GW, and is certainly in keeping with what they do in other game systems. I would even welcome it, at least for some Houses (hello Escher). My fear would be that weapon options would change so it is no longer possible to use old models with new rules.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens. It could be nothing more than a new starter set.

Long time no see I have been quite active in Necromunda hobbywise for the last three years. Mostly building models and terrain (I built half a dozen scenery types, from a space port to an Underhive theme, each enough for a table) but I lacked the time to play it. Recently it is getting better and I look forward to playing NM17 again.

I just bought a copy of Ash Wastes which I had missed back in 2022 when in came out. Both this and Secundus are nice additions.

Skipped most books over the years though as they were not fitting into my hobby budget. Contentwise I think they are worth it but funds are not unlimited.

I agree on everything you said, El Torro, It's about the money for GW. But they should release some compendiums in between, for those who just need the rules (core and gang rules) to play. Otherwise it is hard to expand the player base.

At this point what would be the best source for the latest version of the core rules? Is it Secundus (which I have) or the Core Book (the hardcover)?

And is there still a community edition around with all the rules?

Generally speaking it's a good idea to get the core rulebook, even if you already have the book from Secundus, or Ash Wastes, or whatever. Hopefully if you do buy it, it won't be invalidated in a few months.

I'm not aware of a community edition. There are compendiums and resources online which collate a lot of the rules. I'm not sure which ones are frowned upon by moderators so won't mention any specifics here.

There's also NecroRAW and Munda Manager for that too. (Keep in mind that both sites fully admit that they are not replacements for the books, but well, you know...)
They can be very helpful to use until you're able to buy the actual books and rules compendiums.

You can roll with either/ or of those two sets, and be fine with that. Secondus is a separate hive, and you can run a horror based campaign with specifically built gangs for the new hive of ruins, and the Mutated Stealers, Nids, and Hive gangs of Genestealer Cultists...

For the wastes, you can run the cults through the Ash wastes, road warrior style. fighting over settlements, and abandon outposts, Gorkamorka style...

They aren't replacements for the books, and quite frankly are very useful tools even if you own the books--which is kind of damning of GW in a way. Munda Manager has to interpret the rules for a game that has knowingly published different rules in different books. It's a great gang organization tool that GW doesn't offer. NecroRAW is the searchable database that GW should use for its own future publishing. Some of their past mistake would have been avoided if they had easily searchable rules at their fingertips.

But the finally arbitrator are the books themselves as both sources point out. What they are solving is not needed three or more books to make an up to date House gang. This I predict will be solved by new House books--which will be quickly invalidated by new models not in those books.

As a General Questions,

How do we look on the Roadmap, from a couple of years ago? What is the progress?

What ever happened to the Underhive supplement we were supposed to get, with the boats and Sumplands?

What about the Undead Hive of Karloth Valois?

What About Ork Hive?

Thanks for the infos!

In addition Yaktribe host a community written rules version (NCE)

User baxx here on Dakka used to compile and curate a list with all the contradicting rules in the official books.

So if a new edition is due for later this year, an updated and coherently written official ruleset would be most welcome.

We will probably get one or two of these

You can cross off the boats and sumps, since this is close to it as we'll get.

Here is what we know, GW has really dialed back on complete resets of systems, the last two I can remember are Underworlds and Kill Teams. Since 2017 we have had
a number of updated rules with every new rule book and starter set.

Necromunda: Underhive (2017)
Necromunda Rulebook (2018)
Necromunda: Dark Uprising (2019)
Necromunda: Hive War (2020)
Necromunda: Ash Wastes (2022)
Necromunda: Core Rulebook (2023)
Necromunda: Hive Secundus (2024)

Maybe missed something, but from the start to the last release, there are minor changes only, Actions, dice, templates are basically all the same, All we know with the new rumor is "bland"
That might just mean they are trying to meet a price point and only have limited new plastic, so they may cut a number of things like tactic cards but will referance to the houses and other books.

Basically every Necromunda book GW has ever printed has reprinted and changed some rule - sometimes a minor and inconsequential rule, sometimes a fairly significant one.

Given they did 'stealer hive, presumably they'll slowly work through each of the other hives in boxed sets over the next few years.

Given that Orks are the principal adversary for 11th edition, I can see them showing up in a new Necromunda box set. Or at least a book.

There is a rumor that the miniatures in this new Box will be 'push-fit'.

I hope this is wrong and just a nasty rumor as I have always loved the multi-part kits for individuality and 'kit-bashing'

Push fit bodies with ample space to magnetise weapons or arms/weapons combos would be the best compromise.

I personally hate having to scour unsequenced numbered parts and get the exact right one in the exact right spot, repeated 20+ times for a single miniature.

Yeah, I think the Hive Scum are pretty perfect, practically push-fit.

As with most of this set of rumours this could be fine and could be worrying. If it's even true.

If they decided Necromunda needs a push-fit beginner set but the rest of the range persists then fine, whatever. I won't deny I will appreciate some new poses.

If they have figured out how to do push-fit weapon options with the versatility of the existing kits, then... good?

If it's the dawn on the monopose Necromunda era...

You won't get magnet spaces on them.
Goliaths maybe are the only infantry who would be chunky enough.

Most of the others are quite lanky humanoid models without power armour. There's just no space to put good sized magnets into them. Yes you can do it and most of those magnet connections will wobble because the magnet is tiny.

Push fit I can see being a potential, esp if its a standard "starter set must be push fit" mandate from GW. That could happen and you can have multi-part push-fit models. I suspect you could even do it whilst having universal heads and arms.

That said being highly customisable is part of Necromunda's core; whatever GW does if they take that aspect away from it then the game itself loses a huge portion of its power in the market.

I don’t know, given that most of the current options are very limited in which arm and weapon combinations go on which specific bodies, I think push fit could be quite straightforward. The key is to keep the many different options in the kit (and upgrade frames).
