Re-listening to Dante and DoB, and wanted to get the community opinion on this Tom Bombadill of characters. (He/it only shows up at moments of great need, and has super natural powers)

He's basically a deus ex machina. But in my research, the character pre-dates the books, so he wasn't written by Guy Hayley. I can't find out when his model first actually appears though, the oldest model I could find was 7th. Does anyone know when the actual unit was created? Was it GW or FW? Who wrote him/it into existence, book or codex?

My money is it's Emperor puppeting Askellon.

The Sanguinor first shows up in Codex: Blood Angels 5th edition.

The evidence we've been shown through the Horus Heresy stories, "Herald of Sanguinius" and Ruinstorm points towards the Sanguinor being Alatron, a Sanguinary Guard who was given the "honor" of speaking on Sanguinius's behalf during the time of Imperium Secundus when Sanguinius was reluctantly crowned as the new Emperor, Alatron taking on the moniker of Herald. During the push through the Ruinstorm, the Herald sacrificed himself to save Sanguinius from a warp rift, wings bursting from his back before falling into the rift.

So while it's not 100% confirmation that the Herald is the Sanguinor, it's definitely the strongest theory for the moment.

I don’t know a great deal about the blood angels but follow on from the thread about is the emperor human….

We know sanguinius dies, so his soul goes into the warp as per standard….. the blood angels worship and revere him and if enough of the human residents of blood angel planets and blood angel successor planets worship him then he could well manifest some level of power similar to a strong demon, maybe a demon prince

In one of the recent books, Mephiston encounters the Sanguinor and asks if he is Sanguinius. The Sanguinor sadly replies that he is not and that Sanguinius died long ago.

I agree with the above post that the Sanguinor is the Herald from Imperium Secundus who has gone on to find a new existence as a symbol of hope for the Blood Angels. The Sanguinor explains that every time a Blood Angel creates a thing of beauty or sacrifices his life nobly, the Sanguinor is empowered. Every time a Blood Angels succumbs to the Black Rage, his opposite, the Red Angel is strengthened. If the Red Angel ever overpowers the Sanguinor then the Blood Angels are doomed.

Every time you say you don't believe in the Sanguinor, a Sanguinor dies...

The Sanguinor is just GW giving marines something that already existed for another faction, Saint Celestine. That's all he is.

He is the original marine given the title Sanguinor, from the Horus Heresy. This is explained in Darkness in the Blood.
