Subject: Building an Iron Warriors army from the Box

Hi all,
I'm an excited new entrant to the heresy with this new box set. After weeks of procrastination, I've finally settled on Iron Warriors; nearly went DA or IH but didn't like their paint styles or primarchs (well I like Ferrus manus but I don 't want to magnetise his head )!
I'm looking at the Age of Darkness box before me and pondering how I build out the infantry (will magnetise the dreadnought to cope with my indecisiveness!).
What do people recommend? Do I just go with 2 x 20 tactical squads for the objective holding through Line? I assume I won't be putting bayonets or chain bayonets on?
Also, how should the termies be kitted out?
I know these are newbie questions but I appreciate any advice on these or any wider insight people can offer to a new Iron Warriors player!
Thanks

As someone that has just recently started out aswell.... honestly i think that depends upon your choice of how you want to build your army, moreso when you want to use certain rites of war than anything. (especially since some throw around what is a scoring troop /unit and what isn't.) for my AL i considering atleast 2 line squads with bajonetts. but that is about the only thing i want and will make from the get go.

Well, howdy there, fellow IW ^^. I do actually already have an army (loyalists), buy I also got the box.
So far I'm just testing to see if I like the beakies painted as IWs, this is what I have for the moment:
Just a quick test, but I like them enough to paint at least a unit.
As to what to get... hm. I think you'd probably want to build up a core first and then go on to shinier stuff. For the termies leave at least five of them to convert into tyrant siege termies, they're are a great unit and very iconic.

Bayonets make sense for Iron Warriors, given they’re siege specialists and sooner or later you’ve got to go into that trench and conduct a rigorous scientific study into whether or not the enemy Like It Up ‘Em. The bigger the sample, the more accurate your result. And because your Power Armour can record the action, both hands are freed up to experiment with different depths of Up ‘Em, opening more valuable data points for logical study at a later time.
I think I’ll go with Chain Bayonets. Mostly because they just look cooler. And if we count each tooth as it’s own blade, that way more data points per subject, erm…interviewed as part of the “Do X Like Up ‘Em Or Not” study.

Tbh bayonets or chain ones seem a bit Like a no brainer.

Very nice! I like the scheme.
I think I'll probably splurge for the Tyrant Termies so will go with just keeping these guys as cataphractii. THough there are so many options for weapons and loadout! Ooh, I didn't think about that with the trenches. The only issue is do the points costs for bayonets/chain bayonets make them prohibitive? Maybe one squad of nothing, and one of chain bayonets

Regular bayonets are free, chain ones are +2 ppm, but have Shred, which allows rerolling to wound.

Chain I would say are well, well worth that extra point. They turn a predominantly shooty unit, into one actually not that terrible in HTH, because re-roll wounds means more dice, and a way to dodge Whiffed Rolls.
Will they be as good as a dedicated combat unit in HTH? Nope. But they’ll be a better multi-role unit than a combat squad plinking away with its pistols.

I read it on the pamphlet that comes in the box ^^
Probably just "get you by" rules.

That's crazy that they have different points between the pamphlet and the codex! They were probably printed at the same time!
It's 200pts for 20, or 240 with chain bayonets. May just go for 20 with nothing and 20 with chain bayonets.
The terminators have loads of options to consider next! I don't like magnetising infantry. Just done the dreadnought though, that was really easy to do.
