I've checked for the past few days and the point cost for CSM has remained the same as before the points update. I can understand not being able to/ willing to update stats and things of that sort pre Codex drop but the points were already officially published. I haven't checked other factions since I don't play them but have they been updated?

Join their Discord and ask there.
Also, Battle Scribe data is recorded by volunteers. Whoever does the 40k data / Chaos Marine data probably has a job and kids, etc...
Basically, when a new book drops, some dude is sitting at his computer for 36 hours straight typing in all those new rules, one sentence at a time. I know, I play Horis Heresy, and it's one guy putting in all the new rules from multiple GIANT ASS books into code, proof reading each sentence, checking for errors, etc... Literally one man pouring over the main rule book, traitor and loyalists rule books. Have you seen those things?
Just be patient.

Best way to speed future updates is to support battlescribe by purchasing their full content.

Does the money go to author of BS or author of datafiles?
As BS author isn't doing datafiles money to him doesn't help author of datafiles.
Best way to speed up would be to volunteer yourself to do work. One guy can do only so many things in so many hours.

Nonononononoono!
That's the worst thing you can do RN.
Battlescribe the App is abandonware. The owner and developer of the battlescribe app has gone underground and is doing feth for the app for more than 2 years now.
All you're doing is giving that guy money. The data developers dont see a cent of that (and we never will, lest we bring GW legal down on us in a fury). We all work for free as volunteers as already stated.
There is a replacement in the works, an open source one, so this feth will not happen again - https://github.com/BSData/phalanx.
This one is developed by a small team and the guy that basically founded BSData.
The best thing you can do to support us - report bugs as you find them so we can fix them ASAP.

Thank you for your responses. The reason I asked is that I have an event coming up and I use Battlescribe to build my army. I was hoping that there was some general rule that I wasn't aware of that was delaying the update (like waiting till the points were officially published rather than basing it off of leaked pictures).

It's unpaid volunteers doing it and able to start only when they get rules themselves.
How fast you think you can do it points aren't even that hard as such to update so you can do it yourself if you need updated points.

How long isn't an issue with me. Yes, I realize that volunteers upkeep battlescribe. I didn't know if there was some official or unofficial policy that stated that things couldn't be posted before they were "officially" released. There were leaks of pictures of the points for CSM a few weeks before the "official" release of the points which happened before the release of the Codex. So, as far as I know/knew, there is no reason that the points couldn't have been released earlier (other than somebody taking the time to do it). Pirated books are out within hours of "official" releases I didn't know that battlescribe had a policy regarding early release time.
Sorry if I offended you by asking an innocent question.

False, the people that actually work on the updates for armies dont get anything.
Support https://rosterizer.com/ instead

Rosterizer is yet another closed source product. It runs the same risk of running the same course as Battlescribe. It's why the BSData authors dont "officially support"... personally, our money is in phalanx because its not only open source and free, but made by the same guy that basically founded the BSData in the first place.
Rosteriser its actually using BSData file, although jury rigged to transform into another format. So he's basically feeding off our free work as well.
As a general, but pretty strict rule - updates are never pushed before the street date of the book. Again to avoid GW legal from coming down on us like the wrath of a woman scorned.
As for your actual question - CSM should be updated, but it is a bit fishy currently with the release of the new codex pending, so that's a bit of a special case.

I hope this one takes off more than the other one. JSON and web based for the win over that god awful battlescribe format on an installed app. Yuck.
Biggest problem though is BCP validates on BS format still so they'd have to get popular and then collab with FLG.

Phalanx will be too once they get to the frontend.
For those interested, Blazor and wasm are currently being considered with a backend in C#.

I'm not on the dev team (anymore), but you can always hop on the discord, they've got some channels and some pinned messages down there.
I think the team is still in the progress of constructing the backend and dissecting the battlescribe dataformat for backwards compatibility.
Come to think, I should probably add the link to my sig...

battlescribe doesn't publish the points cost for a codex until after it's released. So it won't be until after this Saturday. Automatically Appended Next Post: Daedalus81 wrote:

Won't the App stores eventually remove the apps if the base software isn't getting updated anymore? I think on Iphone that's a ticking clock.

Sasori- that's what I thought but since GW just released a new point guide that includes CSM I wondered if that would take precedence.

I'm not sure where you got that impression; it's not true at all. Rosterizer's data format is entirely new and relatively incompatible with BSD due to its less opinionated structure and more extensible rule/conditional system. We have a few ways to smooth migrations from other systems, but we don't rely on the BS data. newrecruit.eu and a few other builders do, however.
(sorry for the necro; just found this thread)

Thanks for the shoutout but it's worth noting that we plan to follow the battlescribe model of interpreting data provided by outside sources (except in cases where companies request that we host their stats; if they happen to be too small to be able to afford their own official list-builder, for instance)

Thanks for the vote of confidence! We're pretty proud of the advances that our data format permits, and we're excited for the public to be able to play around with the results.
I should point out that Phalanx is also planned to be a webapp; That feels like the way of the future for a lot of tools, although I definitely have fielded my share of complaints about Rosterizer not being a native app. Can't please everybody.
