I was thinking of building one of these Space Marine cowboys, and was wondering how good they are, how they play, and what's the best weapons for them?

Never used then, honestly, but they look like fun.

Also they look like they might scare the bezeezus out of characters with two disintegrator pistols.

They do have the issue of gibbing themselves though.

Don´t forget to model them with a cowboy hat out of Green Stuff.

The disintegrator looks fun, but paired volkite seems like it also has a lot of potential.

(No experience here, but also thinking of building one)

Paired Plasmas is very fun. You either take down a unit of 10 Laernean Terminators, a Predator, and a Fire Raptor in a game or you get two shots off and blow up.

I mean, 24 S5 shots with Deflagrate...

Is it worth having a spare pistol for if one gets hot, or using that space for a power weapon for if/when you get stuck in CC?

Also, is it worth going one big gun (disintegrater/plasma) and one basic (bolt/volkike)

Considering he just stops shooting with weapons that get hot or have melter armorbane after a roll of one, it may well be the better option to forgo plasma or desintegrators and use dual volkite, no failure there and 24 deflagerating shots is pretty hillarious in itself.

The core issue is his special rules that basically force you into fielding a mortalis squad with a rhino most likely to get within range. Unless you want a model that is stuck walking with low range weapons but a really big pricetag attached, considering just for being a moritat you pay 105 pts.

I cant really see any reason not to take twin volkites. The potential for that many shots is just too good. Going to be chewing through most units with that many shots regardless of what they are. Chuck him in a destroyer squad for ablative wounds.

Fair enough if you go Dreadnought or tank hunting with him...
However twin plasma stops after 3 salvos and you loose HP

Moritats are a lot of fun to use.

I have three of them currently, one with Dual Bolt Pistols, one with Dual Volkites, and one with Dual Disintegrators.

As always, targeting is key to using them well.

It has Scout and can get a jump pack, right? (The official mini has one, at least). That feels like enough, and costs... 129 points?

yeah he still can get a jumppack, which is probably an autopick for it if only to get access to deepstrike and close the gap and yes with 2 volkites and a jumppack that clocks in at 129 pts.

Basically it's a fire and forget weapon with that setup, and however, against other marines and so long gw put the breaks on the PDF's and the Adeptus mechanicus books that is all you will see, he doesn't do to well with volkite, killing about 4 legio tacs, meanwhile the 6 tacs probably casually drown him in 18 bolter shells as turnabout which makes 2 wounds go through.

Now if you hand him something like a plasma gun and a volkite, you have a pretty comfortable chance of getting 6 plasma pistol shots off.. Probably better off with the desintegrators though, but after 3 salvos he basically stops firing, granted with disintegrators he can target elite infantry and there he will make his points back easily.

The only drawback is that he takes an HQ slot that could have been a Chaplain or Librarian or something.
Which isn’t that much of a drawback but still.

I've used moritats for years, they're hilarious. Theyre kind of a fire-and-forget bomb unit thats annoying for the opponent to deal with but if they don't he will likely annihilate something far more expensive than his PTS cost....or he'll just explode on turn 2.

I used to use dual plasma but now I go with double disintergrator for added hilarity. He sometimes wipes a dread or terminator squad. He sometimes dies having done nothing.

I'd also recommend a jump pack and power axe if you can stomach the points.

Remember he also had rad grenades and counter attack so he's no slouch in melee and is also helps other units kill things if he charges in to support them.

I sometimes attach him to my destroyers but he's often best off either coming on with them and then splitting off or just going alone from the get-go, destroyers want to be charging really and the moritat stops them doing that when he chain fires.

Absolutely try one out. They also have a lot of cool uses depending on what your legion allows wargear wise. Definitely one of the more fun consul types
