I have a terminator praetor with a paragon blade, but I want to build a regular one and was wondering what the best loadout was. I was thinking of a power maul since it looks cool, but again, I've heard that the paragon blade can't be beat. Also, should I give him a jump pack or not?

Typically the Paragon blade is one of the best, however Power Fists and Thunder Hammers are strong.

Also, Legion? Cant really say with out the whole picture.

Paragon Blade would be best all around for dueling anything that arent the beatstick characters or dreads.

Power Fists will cause ID vs Marines

Thunder Hammers will also ID marines, but cause additional wounds vs Dreads.

If you arent worried about fighting dreads, go Blade. Or put points into the character and do Blade + Fist or Hammer.

Well then, the correct answer is the power weapon mace. Or a really big mace and call it a thunder hammer. At least thematically.

for what legion? if its Dark Angels then the Terranic greatsword is hands down the best weapon on a Praetor.

Terranic Greatswords are just one of the best weapons, period.

But as with any question like this, it really depends on what you plan to do with him. I think Victor said it well.

Heck yeah! Murderous Blow and Rending on 5+. Definitely good stuff!

Thanks for all the advice. How would a charnabal glaive be on one? I know that they're not the strongest of weapons, but they'd be great for dueling. I just want to say that this would be for a second, alternate praetor that I might want to one from time to time, separate from my main two.

It's not great for dueling in the actual game though, because you're left hoping for a breaching hit with no chance of ID. In a fight against anything worth its salt (i.e. any model with a 2+ save and/or more than 1W), you'll lose every time. Sounds cool in concept but not so much when a Tactical Sergeant splats your Praetor with a fist because you couldn't cut through their armour.

If you're wanting to use something that isn't a paragon blade just for the sake of not using a paragon blade's rules (noting that a paragon blade can be modelled as anything, it doesn't have to be a sword), and you're playing WB, why not just use a tainted weapon?
