Subject: New to HH and the Leviathon Dreadnought

Hi,
Although I've played a smattering of games in each edition of 40k since the late 90's (3rd edition?), I've not really enjoyed this latest version - to be fair - I can barely understand the rules for building an army with all the CP/Stragems etc, so I decided to take the plunge and try HH with the version 2 rules. I bought myself the Age of Darkness Box set and the 2 Liber books as well as the Leviathon Dreadnought with melee weapons.
Getting round to building the Leviathon has made me a little unsure of the rules.
From reading rules, I got the impression if you had 2 different one handed melee weapons, you got +1 Attack, and you chose which weapon did the attack/damage. So a Marine with a power fist and a pistol, would choose his attacks to come from the power fist.
How does this work for the Leviathon Dreadnought?
Does it get +1A?
Do I choose which weapon does the damage? If so, why would anyone build it with two of the same melee weapons?
Can someone please give me a page reference or something that explains this before I build it.
Thanks.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity. |

So for the Leviathan specifically it starts with two Siege Claws and the additional attacks are included in the profile. If you upgrade a Leviathan to have any amount of ranged weapons instead, it loses an attack as detailed on the unit profile in either of the Liber books regarding the Legions.
Don't bother thinking of reasons why people take certain things, it's an endless hole with a million different answers.
As a side note, do you have the Liber book associated with the Legion you are playing?

No - the extra attack is included in it's profile. If you swap a claw for a gun it loses an attack (p.66 ?)

Yes, and because two claws is the cheapest option.

Thanks for the replies and answers. That really helps.
I'll go with one of each melee (claws/drill) on the Leviathan.
GW make it so hard to magnetise parts by not providing quite enough parts to make full spare weapons. Marketing to get us to buy more I guess.

Magnatising is possible. The bloke from MGM reviews did it and I've seen a couple of folk on Instagram do it as well.

You could magnetize it if you do it at the elbows. One magnet in the opening of the upper arm and two into the sides from the lower arm.

Older editions of 30K/ 40K used damage tables for mechanical walkers like the dreadnought. So when you suffered a weapon destroyed result one of your main guns/ ccw was gone. Having two weapons of the same kind ensures that you don´t get screwed by the aforementioned damage table result because you still have a weapon of the same type with which the unit can continue to perform it´s battle field role.
