I dumped out my bits box for a little project tonight. I started randomly lining up pieces to see if I could convert something. I ended up with a unit of Centurion Devastators (Heavy bolters and Centurion Missile launchers). Now I have to figure out what chapter of marines to put them with.

What I have for marine armies: Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Deathwatch, Blood Angels, Space Wolves.

I know this unit isn't considered optimal, but what army do you think gives them the best boosts?

I might be biased, but Ultras are rarely a bad choice for shooty units. Hard to tarpit in CC.

I usually run UM, but Centurions can move and remain stationary so maybe the Dark Angels?

Nah this is correct. For shooting infantry that have no bite in melee, Ultramarines are the correct choice. With how many shots they have, you won't notice much a difference with the -1 to shooting.

I don’t know what tricks the other chapters could pull, so didn’t want to put the Ultras out as “best” and haven’t personally used them. But theoretically we should be able to get some good milage out of them.

There is a strat that lets you ignore the fallback penalty if that -1 is an issue. And charge back in if you are feeling cheeky,

The UM superDoctrine is crazy good for shooting. You also get the Scions of Guilliman Strat for rerolling 1's without a Captain around, plus the Strat for putting a unit into a Doctrine (like Devastator) that is not otherwise active for your army.

Exactly, hence why for strictly shooting infantry like Heavy Intercessors, Devastators, and the Centurions, you have to go Ultramarines so to not lose offensive bite.
