So I’ve got a Bombard with the Morbus Bombard cannon. Why is it nearly twice the points of the Scorpius?

It’s slower. The gun has worse range. The cannon can’t punch through power armour whereas the Scorpius can reliably kill terminators with rending 4 plus.. Because with range 48 you can cover most of the map and won’t need to move the thing. Plus the thing only has front armour 12 compared to a Scorpius with 13.

Basically you get ordinance, pinning and 2 extra strength. Also an additional hull point. Plus move through cover. For 80 points that’s not worth it. If anything the points should be flipped.

If you don’t AP1 or 2 you can’t one shot tanks so the strength is wasted. You need to kill marines to cause pinning. An extra hull point doesn’t matter when you’re armour 12 on the front.

Am I missing something here? It really feels like a 200 point paper weight. It doesn’t seem to have an actual purpose and is just horrendously worse than the Scorpius.

Plus, please explain how a shell larger than a Space Marine isn’t AP3? Like a marine could literally fit in the barrel. Why is it’s AP potential the same as an autocannon shell?

Be fine if I hadn’t paid up for a Bombard in the Death Guard army since it’s basically what they have in 40k. Like I don’t know what makes people think it’s worth 200 points.

I just think Scorpius looks weird. I really can’t see any of my armies having one. It looks too high tech to go Death Guard and doesn’t fit Emperors Children or Sons of Horus.

Sales driven ruleset. That´s why 9th Age became a thing to avoid such a mess.

Well that’s what I couldn’t get. It’s a tank heavy release but they’ve made tanks terrible. Genuinely. I was going to get a 2nd Kratos but after the first game I was like; nope. Clearly a paperweight. Looks cool but I just I’d be playing with a handicap taking one.

Instead you’ve made terminators and dreads amazing which we already have a ton of.

Pretty much nailed it, 2.0 just isn't very good. 1,0 is a better combined arms turned based skirmish game because even though skew lists still exist, the unit types make far more sense, bikes aren't knee capped for no reason, tanks aren't a laughing stock, terminators aren't 2 wounds because reasons unless they're an elite unit, javelins can still move over other models, and dreads still had armour values and weren't mary sue mc's.

1.0, it's better.

The scorpius was always sorta under costed in 1.0 to be fair.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

With two sponson weapons, the Bombard is partially insulated against becoming a paper weight from one shot. Cough up for Autocannon to stop them be defensive, and it’s three such results before you lose the true main weapon.

It also has Vehicle (Bombard) but I’m struggling to find out exactly what that means.

Found it!

Bombard allows Combat Speed move and fire of Ordnance and Defensive weapons.

With Move Through Cover, the Bombard offers a different suite of tactical options to the Scorpius, which must remain stationary to gain Barrage.

Is that enough? You decide that, but I am seeing advantages.

Personal opinion:
Buy the stuff you like and customize the rules to your liking or you will have a very bad time in either 30K or 40K.

It's rather more effective at killing higher toughness, mid armour things like gal vorbak, mechanicum units with the lorica thallax, land speeders, myrmidons etc. And also as a fringe case against models with battle hardened or legiones astartes iron hands. It's also more effective against vehicle squadrons

The scorpius is strong against power armour and terminator armoured toughness 4 units.

Oh also, I'd rather have the bombard against custodes!

Is the bombard to expensive? Maybe. Is the Scorpius too cheap? Almost certainly

I think it looks rather good. But then I always liked the original Marine missile launcher design, so the fact that it's turret echoes that makes it very appealing. I'm also just very partial to the Heresy-era vehicle aesthetic. I wasn't going to get one, as I have too many unbuilt Heresy vehicles already, but I think I want one for my SoH.
