Not long put the last lick of paint to my Legions Imperialis stuff, giving me my first fully painted army in a decade.

28mm assault begins tomorrow. As covered, aiming for 5 Marines a day, or 20 over four days equivalent. But if I do less, all that really matters is I’m doing a bit everyday and my progress will continue.

But which video to inspire me?

Honestly, the split between infantry and armour is about equal. I've just had armies of Cadians, Catachans, Cultists, Skitarii, and various other human-scale models from GW and elsewhere to build a large number of dudes. The newer rules also made the Command Cadre's bigger (20 strong) and gave the Rogue Psykers 9 extra bodies for brain exploding shenanigans so the number creeps up pretty quickly while still being cheap.
The infantry dies (obviously) but they work in the role of being very annoying and at times surprisingly useful. People scoff at a 6+ FNP but when the amount of times it's kept my brave little dudes going is pretty bonkers.
I do also try to play with as many of the Provenances as possible and that helps to keep the army fresh.

Anyways, shaded the seekers, today will be the final day of touching up aswell for my veterans before i will go play with sand to base the half company worth of marines.

Basing is almost as bad as basecoating in its tedium. At least I have a radiator right beside my desk to help dry them quicker.

i have 7 infantry units in my army, (cadre, 3 mil squads in a single choice, and 3 grenadier squads at 20) all of them with a medicae and an enforcer. It's hillarious when marine opponents run before my army does and the 6+ fnp does help with the prevalent bolter issue.

I am kinda inclined to test the more mechanicum aligned ones a bit more for my darkmech force

That beeing said i have mixed impressions of my artillery, thunderblasts with vox support can be surprisingly good at AT, calliopes surpress a bit better but honestly i think at some point GW will have to add in breaching for calliopes at 6 , thunderblasts at 5, and earthshakers / battlecannons at 4+. Unless gw insists that the scorpius should be the only artillery to be effective.

For basing i normaly go with whiteglue-water mixture applied by a rough brush and then decor sand. With the ocaisional grass tuft or real small stone i find. Works well for my desert table. but certainly not earning me model of the year

And after some effort to get a good photo the finished but awaiting varnish Vindicator.

I have a second rhino, two more Vindicators, 3 Whirlwinds A Kratos and two land raiders to go. Unless I change my mind at some point half way through which is likely!

Both very nice. I’m particularly taken with the Vindicator. Considering the scheme is “big block of yellow”, you spot colours and overall detailing really work, breaking up what could’ve been a monotonous look without detracting from that core colour.

Not sure these words properly convey my meaning, so I’ll just say…

Well as you asked, these five guys were the first models I painted to test the scheme. The photos don’t really show the edge highlights, I’ll have to try to get some in natural daylight.

The yellow itself is a total pain. As I knew I wanted a tank heavy army I didn’t want to go down the contrast imperial fist route as it doesn’t look so good on large flat surfaces. This is colour forge “I can’t believe it’s not averland sunset” as an undercoat with Vallejo Sun Yellow spray over the top. It has a very smooth almost hydrophobic finish to it, so anything that isn’t going to be yellow then gets a brush on primer to start. I’ve used subassemblies were I can spraying bits black then gluing them on later.

The weathering Helps hide a lot of sins. I’ve never done it this heavily before but like the look for heresy.

Ah yes. Pain and suffering induced by yellow. Second only to freehand seriously

I really like the way you’ve achieved such a smooth, even finish with the yellow. I suck at painting yellow. But the weathering looks unfinished. I think you also need rust streaks and bare metal showing through on the edges, and more grime generally.

60 Marines all undercoated.

Next up is AP* Gun Metal dry brush, then AP Grim Black speed paint.

From there? Whizz round with the Gun Metal to block in metallics, an as-yet undecided wash, AP Graveyard Grey on weapon casings (actually, probably that before the wash), then do red detailing on Right Shoulder pad and eye lenses. Maybe the odd spot colour here and there. And of course basing.

Whilst I’d be seriously pushing myself, with sod all planned this weekend, I might just bash all of these out by Monday. Which will be half my infantry done.

Well. My assembled Infantry, as there’s another 50 on-sprue.

And finished half a company worth of Alpha legionaires.
and 3 jetbikes.

Just 20 Tactical Legionnaires left to undercoat.

Then it’s out with a decent sized drybrush.

Also - can you post a close-up of your jetbikes? And what weapon will you be equipping them with? I am doing a unit of them for my Space Wolves, and am thinking that Volkite is the way to go.

Got the beach mirrored one myself and it's a nice unit.

I think that’s the same overall thing, with as you say mirroring.

Good bit more expensive though, which is likely the mirroring.

I left the feet off mine. Whilst they are likely up to the job, they felt too plasticky to me. Also, the baseplate has no pre-drilled sockets for them. So given I’m loading with precious cargo, I didn’t trust myself to properly space them. Better it sit on the baseplate. Which is does so quite happily.

Assembling 10 more Guardians. Now I have 10, plus 5 sentinels...Not counting these, I will need 20 more Guardians and 5 Sentinels, for a very fun Valdor x Shield Captain x 50 Custodes list
