How well would it work? I like densely packed terrain, and I figure some piping could help bring lots to the table, but has anyone tried it?

Yes it works fine. Get some dirt cheap fittings in the same size for easy jointing. I also fitted a few magnets to help things snap together

Piping can be useful. The trick is adding enough detail that it looks scale appropriate. Otherwise it's almost always obvious what it is.

The easiest would probably be strips of paper or thin plastic embossed to suggest rivets and then wrapped around the pipes at intervals to indicate joins.

Adding valve wheels that are small enough for a 28mm model to turn also helps to reinforce the scale.

PVC pipe of all sizes can work for various things. Anybody else remember seeing 4" PVC pipe caps used as drop pods before GW made a drop pod model?

One more thing, the easiest way to make an emboser to simulate rivets is to buy the smallest hole punch you can from the craft store and then round off the punch a bit so you can squeeze gently and press an indentation/bump into the plastic or metal without punching all the way through. I've used mine for making rough armor plates for post-apoc cars out of blister pack material.

An in progress picture of one such use.

Just either use the proper bonding agents (if gluing bits together) or sand the areas to be joined to remove ANY shine or even superglues won't hold that well to it.

For best results, pvc solvent bonding agents are the go-to (you should be able to get it at any hardware/DIY store.)

Roughing the surface and super glue usually works fine. Pvc is extremely effective but also extremely nasty.

Wow, those look quite cool.

Are there any companies still making MDF drop pods? My Google-fu is falling short today.

Yeah I had some luck with it. If you have the patience you can do some riveting with a drill and some pins. Adds a bit more industrial flare.

Throw on some hazardous fluid or gas signs here and there. Maybe glue on some control panels if you have them spare. (Like the inner wall of the rhino kit)

I'll send some pics when I get home.
