Time to pick the theme for January's round! This month, your choices are:

Location, Location, Location: The ground on which you fight, and the means by which you use it, can be the key ti victory. Be it camoflauge gear, environmental protection or simply adapting to a master a particular habitat, your entry should feature models suited to fighting in unusual environments, ideally accentuated by basing work or specialist gear on the mini itself.

Ascension: Whether through holy gifts, technological augmentation or evolution, some warriors reach a state of rank above their fellows and gain the prowess to match. Your entry should include models that have undergone such an changes on their rise to power, be that a perfectly-evolved monstrosity, a dark wizard reaching lichdom or agrizzled veteran ridelled with cybernetics.

Fancy Footwork: Positioning is everything in a life-or-death duel, and those who practice the art of poise and dexterity easily outmatch flat-footed opponents. Your entry should feature models known for their agility, mobility or other feats of footwork.

Fresh to the Fight: Everyone starts somewhere! Whether it's a conscript guardsman with his first lasgun or a newly-spawned Orc already eager to crack some 'eads, your entry should include inexperienced, fresh or new models yet to rise through the ranks or achieve glory.

Went with Ascension, but really I'm happy with any of the first three. Just as long as it's not Fresh to the Fight, I'll be fine...

Fancy Footwork for me and I know just the mouse for the job.

Ooft. Tough, but at least I have an idea for Ascension.

I was hoping the 'mercenaries' suggestion would make it into the poll - I've got no ideas for any of these at all! Better get my thinking cap on....

I'm going with Ascension. I have an idea or two for that. No clue what I'd do for the others.

I picked Fancy Footwork - I found an affordable Juan Diaz Steed on ebay a little while back, haven't put paint to her yet - but I've got options for Ascension or Fresh as well. Nothing specific comes to mind for Location, Slaaneshi troops seem the kind to dress for a party no matter where they're actually going - when it says 'master a particular habitat', is a brothel a habitat?

Starting the new year off strong! Honestly, I think all of these are pretty good choices. Although, I'm hoping location wins. I've got a pretty cool base on a my to-do list.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

It's balanced on a knife edge right now! Could go either way...

Is this the final result? If so, democracy triumphed again and saved me from an option for which I have no idea whatsoever!

Damnit, I have almost finished my latest 10mm scale aircraft. I wonder if I have anything else that ascends…

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Went for Ascension since that can be interpreted in quite a few ways and thought it would be interesting to see what people enter for it

Indeed, Ascension it is! Go democracy!

Excellent. That means I have a half done conversion to finish that should fit the theme nicely.

Do you have any miniatures of politicians? According to my local balloonologist hot air makes things go up.

Dictionary .com also gives escalating, rising and mounting as synonyms of ascension… oo-er missus…

When I left work last night, 'Location' was winning... so I brought home some Ratling snipers to convert. And now it looks like it's 'Ascension' instead!
Sorry, Ratlings, back into the 'unopened blisters' pile for you, lads.

Ascension - I reckon I might do Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear for my Stormcasts. She'll be a fun one to mess around with, but the paint scheme would be pretty similar to what I did on this month's model. Which might be a bit dull.
So I could go for a Rogue Trader Dreadnought instead, for a total change of pace... plus, he's been waiting for a new coat of paint since Christmas 1987, so it's probably due.

Sounds good @Lovejoy! Looking forward to seeing more of your stormcast... or a RT dread sounds like fun, too!

For me, I've either got a saint celestine I'm going to paint up as my own saint (same as the sororitas in my last entry, but obviously ascended to living sainthood), or alternatively I have a 3D printed model I've been converting into an exodite avatar of Lileath. I'd really love to get her painted up if I can ever finish the conversion work...

I think I’ll paint a marine who ascended to the status of relic banner.

Ascension? I wonder if I still have that old Ral Partha 3-stage character model lying around. Or else I'll have to do a wizard+apprentice for Frostgrave...

Now showing Wasteland Weirdos for TNT and zombies for Dungeon Saga!

Painting total as of 22 July 2025: 99 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I loved that series from RP! I think I had a couple of them, I know for sure I had a cleric one I used in a campaign.

Found him! I'll post photos of my 30+ year old paint jobs once the official thread is up.

Ascension eh? Good thing I’ve a load of tiny WW2 planes to choose from. (As I’ve got zip in terms of mega-enhanced characters.) Planes doesn’t really fit the spirit of the theme though. I’ll have to see if I have one or two with obvious modifications to help them “ascend” to higher levels of combat performance.

I mean, dunno if you got that last oathsworn kickstarter, but those mist ghasts could maybe be argued to have ascended to a new phase of existance. Already painted mine in previous months though, I'll have to find something else...

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

I made this 3D model kitbash awhile ago, but I figured someone might find some inspiration from it, so I'll go ahead and share it here.

It's an Imperial Guard Vanquisher that I've dressed up for taking the Knight of Piety tank ace. The fluff is that it's a battle relic that the Sororitas chapter from the regiment's home planet rescued from scrap and restored. I kitbashed it originally to serve as a Castigator proxy, but now that taking a Vanquisher in a guard list isn't an act of self-sabotage, I'm eager to field it as part of my guard list. The kitbash is a combination of the base Leman Russ Vanquisher, a Cherub, some purity seals from an astropath's staff, and some cloth physics curtesy of Blender. If ever I get into physical models, I might have to try using some microfiber cloth or something silk-like to add cloth to some models. Either way, hopefully this sparks some ideas.

Spoiler:
