What sized maps do you guys typically play on? I been out of the hobby for a long time now and looking to get back into it. Trying to decide on a 4x6 map or the 4x6 maps.

Back in the says when I played in GW, standard was 1000 to 1500pts on 4x4 maps. Has things changed?

Most of my gaming is done on 4x6 or 4x8 tables.

6 x 4 whichever way you want it for preference - have used other sizes perfectly happily

My gaming table is really a wood-mounted wall map sitting saw horses. It's a global map of Air France's routes in the 1960s, picked it up at a garage sale 30 years ago.

Anyhow, it's 7x4ish - only 44 inches wide, so the deployment zones are 10 inches rather than 12. Works just fine, though. At one point I set a 4x8 over it to see if the larger size was worth it, but it was just a little too big for the room.

Plus, when I'm not doing minis, the map frame acts as a dice-catching lip for boardgames.

Want a better way to do fantasy/historical miniatures battles?  Try Conqueror: Fields of Victory.

Do you like Star Wars but find the prequels and sequels disappointing?  Man of Destiny is the book series for you.

Team 6x4 here.

Though for smaller Combat Patrol and Incursion sized games (500 to 1000 pts) I have been using 44"x30" (2x of the foldable carboard gameboards by GW).

5 X 9 (standard size for a table tennis surface)

Deploy 18" instead of the usual 12. The added space is important because you can actually be out of range once in a while. It takes an extra turn to play usually but the added tactical options are worth it.

Just my opinion but I have been using that size table for years. 40K on a smaller table looks odd once tanks begin to appear.

I have a 4ft x 8ft table. I play games from 2x2 to the full table size depending on the game.

I like 4x6 and use the last 2 feet as a side-board to put tracking, roll dice, and have a electronic device set up on.

I've got a 4x6 table, and a selection of 4x6, 4x4, and even 3x3 mats, depending on which game I'm playing. I think probably the most common these days is 4x4 that I play on, but mostly due to which games we're currently playing.

6'x4' as thats what the local club has, also 4x4 when appropriate, then if required a smaller mat etc on top of that

No maps are harmed in the playing of games, except when played digitally.

Tables? Sure.
Boards? Occasionally.
Mats? If I must.

But never a map...

6x4 feet for me. Can be trimmed to aos/40k new minimum size if needed and even then extra space for dice, rules and models handy.

If i could fit 8x5 would do just that

I have a 6x4 board - but I mostly use 3x3 or 4x4 mats on it (as none of the games I actually still play use the full 6x4.
The play area is in the middle with a "sideboard" on either side for your 'dead', markers/counters needed, etc.

40k and AoS rulebooks list recommended game-space sizes in the rulebooks, for the past couple of versions. They're based on GW's own boards, as included in starter sets.

But, we usually play on a 6x5 table, and use most of it.

I have both a 4x6 and 4x8. Small board for most gaming. Big board was made to fit over my pool table, that why it has extra length.

Depends on the game. 3x3 or 6x3 for Star Trek Attack Wing, 4x6 for Oathmark, lotr depending on the scenario, 40K on whatever is easy to setup or fitting for game size because the rules on board size are very loose these days.
