I'm building my Cerastus Knight-Atrapos, which includes an https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Atrapos_Lascutter.
I'm looking for examples where a laser beam has been modelled and painted, as I'd like to have mine "on" and carving through the ground. Obviously lots of OSL will help to sell the effect, but any example images would be great thanks

These guys do a range of great looking effects. Maybe something there to spark inspiration
https://deadlyprintstudio.com/
They also did a recent Kickstarter for imperial files, which is likely to hit their webstore when the fulfilment phase is completed.

Can't think of a better example I've seen than this D&D diorama...

I'm presuming you're going for a red looking laser? Are you able to use electric lighting at all? If so, you could use a red acrylic rod that plunges into the ground (with appropriate dust and detritus kicked up around the impact), with an LED light embedded in the ground underneath the end to light it up. Not sure how well that would work, but it might look cool with the correct application of OSL?

It's something I'm considering yep.- it seems like a good way to make it look good from all angles.
