GW did pick the current scale (around a decade ago) very specifically so that the difference between different marks of marine armour can be clear on the models.

Of course that doesn't mean a cosmetically different infantry sprue would be a viable product to drop any time. Given the way that GW usually operate it's the kind of thing that would be released via a new LI starter box that is expected to get new artwork, a bigger marketing push, and minimum level of sales.

I'm sure there will be a new infantry kit along for all 3 factions. There's bits missing for all that would easily make up another full sprue; if not perhaps two or more.

I was under the impression that in 30K SoS would be their own army on their own.
But the rate of updates is very slow outside of Marines for 30K and it seems like design/release work for LI is kind of half bound to 30K

I don't know about LI, but the SoS are included in the Liber Custodes.

SoS in the previous edition of 30k had a comprehensive army list and could be played standalone or interwoven with Custodes. The most recent edition removed 90% of their units, so... Yeah, no bright future for them.

Slightly more complex than that.
SoS in HH1 were fairly bare bones and needed to lean on Custodes to be anything like a fleshed out army.
HH2 expanded SoS dramatically, adding a whole bunch of new units they never had before (spoilers, or since).
HH3 has now cut all of those new options off and a lot of what they even had in HH1.
But honestly HH2 is more an odd one out than HH3 is tbh

Odd one out or not, the units were there, and for a glorious three years, they were an -army!-

Also lets not forget the current HH is more of a follower of "no models no rules" so potentially the strip down of SoS was more a result of that since they basically have 1 model kit; 1 hover tank and 1 resin hero (might be one other kit?).

So it could just be current edition stripped them down with a view that they'll grow once/if GW gets to a big production slot for them.

Custodes and SoS will come to LI - eventually. But didnt they say they got a lot of kits to do before they get there?

Maybe the SoS and Custodes will be released at the same time as demons? Both could done with a wave box like Mechanicum.

Custodes have coats, so less issues with undercut than poor Astartes, but I can't imagine how spears will be, so small and fragile...

I hope, in that horizon they say, Imperial Militia and mk2 Astartes will come soon. Only two sprues... com'on....

I noticed two things:

WIth the Liber Strategica, Legiones Startes Command Squads can now use "Volkite Chargers" (plural) as Weapons, but we don't have that option - except the Praetor who doesen't use more than one. Another option from a upcoming Infantry Sprue?

With the "The Ruin of the Salamanders" expansion, we didn't got Stat Cards for the new Stuff after the Liber Strategica.

Other heavy weapons for Astartes infantry have also been hinted at by some rules, IIRC. Wouldn't surprise me to see some of them arrive along with another armour mark tacticals and Tartaros terminators, plus those volkite command squad models etc

The Imperial Fist rules from the core book is talking about some weapons on infantry detachmants that don't exist unless I missed something like heavy bolters, autocannons, Lascannons and Plasma cannons. That was the first clear hint at additional infantry but its also been nearly 3 years since then.

But that makes me wonder if we will see a new edition at the end of the year since GW likes 3 year editions which would also explain the relative lack of releases currently

There was a Rumor about a 1.5 Rulebook at 4chan some Time ago.

We're also still missing AA-Tanks.

I could see further Space Marine Infantry Sprues and Custodes with a Prospero Themed Journal. They could also introduce LIbrarian Command Squads.

There's also ample room for another infantry box for the SA - weapon teams, mounted units and so forth.

Cant see rough riders happening for SAX, its not Star Wars with horses running around in space. Bikes could be cool though.

I don't think so, Solar still misses some few units, but troopers with jump packs, or riding horses or bikes belong to Imperial Militia, not to Solar Auxilia. So I hope in an Imperial Militia infantry sprue. But I'm afraid this is just my dream, more Astartes and Custodes are far more realistic options. And more tanks, I've understood Legions Imperialis is a game of tanks with tracks, spider legs, a-graw engines and so on.

The SA are pretty much the Imperial Guard though - almost their entire unit roster is a precurser to the IA and a chunk of their tanks are just 40K tanks from FW stolen and put into the SA instead of 40K.


Also isn't the Lord Solar himself in 40K riding around on a mechanical horse. The setting is VERY much full of riding horses/dinosaurs/demons/squigs/other stuff and bikes.

They very much are not, no. Their closest 40k analogue would be Scions/Kaskrin. They are elite un-genmodded troops that fight in void armour. The massed scum are the Imperial Army.

Yes. The 30k rules technically are missing a proper "second-line" army that is in between the elite Auxilia and the third-line Militia, but you can get most of the way there with the right Militia build (the basic Militia squad is basically the same guardsmen statline 40k has had for decades).

But Auxilia are very much the elite. The degree of eliteness varies as they are a larger organisation than the Scions, but it reaches all the way up.

They're also not just stormtroopers +1, they've got the whole void warfare thing going on. That would make cavalry rough. This also kinda leaves them in a weird spot when it comes to new units, because space marines obviously also do a lot of the things that aux would want to be doing.

Could see Cavalry only as Assault options to Reserve/Garrison/2nd Line Troops.


They could introduce the common Imperial Army as a Faction.
