Honestly, and I'm not kidding about this, a Dragon Magazine (#149) article by Ken Rolston called "Orcs In Space."

This was written for 1st edition 40k, but its fully compatible with any edition, because its really just a very simple set of conversion rules, that allow the PCs to use their stats as skills, and make PCs more survivable on the tabletop. IMHO, it was far less complicated than either Inquisitor, or Dark Heresy and its progeny. In fact, if you wanted a rules light version of Dark Heresy, etc., just use the fluff from that system, and the rules from 40k and this article, and you have something that plays well in the 40k universe, but with no more complexity than an OSR rpg.

Anybody else ever give this a try? To this day, its still one of my favorite pick-up games.

No, but now I'll have to see if I have #149 in my stack.

You won't regret it. Ken's stated goal is to turn it into a roleplaying game that's about as satisfying as original D&D. He does this masterfully, and with an extremely light touch.

There is already so much fluff, and so many rules describing pretty much everything you'd need for an rpg, even in that early edition of the game, that Warhammer becomes an rpg with just a few rules making the PC's a little harder to kill, but not much harder to knock unconscious. A lot of it is just focus on making the PCs return to consciousness in the evil scientist's laboratory, or the ork's gladiatorial arena.

That plus a few words on creating skills out of virtually nothing, character creation, and experience, and you're there. He even writes up a nice "space-dungeon" for you to play in.

I love it to this day.

I'd love to see those rules if you find 'em.

Here's the issue for those interested

The main take aways are - use rogue trader 1st Ed rules and profiles.

When successfully wounded, roll a d100 on the wound table to determine how successful the wound was.

Skills should be assigned to existing stats and use their existing test mechanics - ld on 2d6 and strength on 1d6 for example.

I'd say this and inquisitor 28mm are both pretty similar.

Apologies, I thought you said you were going to need to find your dragons (magazines) to get the rules... you're specifically looking for dragon models to use in game?

"Great!" was in response to your post with the pdf. The rest was me talking out loud stating that I need to locate where abouts in storage all my Dragon magazines are so I can take an inventory.

I'm sure there's some old gems of articles I've long forgotten or never paid attention to.
