Over the last two days I had a game where I won and had fun and a game where I lost and had fun, so feeling pretty good about 10th so far.

It helps that nobody in my group plays Eldar.

Closest option to my feelings is "10th is a trainwreck," but I get that some people have and will enjoy it. I don't begrudge anyone having fun with 10th, but with the release of the points and the fact that there's no wiggle room in them...
No thank you. Not gonna be playing 10th-certainly not now, possibly not ever.

10th Edition, as a ruleset, has tremendous promise and I look forward to playing it hopefully next weekend.

The Indices and army construction rules/"points" system are an absolute fething trainwreck however, and I look forward to completely ignoring them and doing my own.

I'm slightly annoyed that I was right in predicting that how you buy units in blocks like in AoS came to pass.

I'm not exactly happy with Deathguard atm.
Fortunately they aren't my only army.....

But other than that I see nothing that'll prevent me from enjoying 10e.

I've played two games and will play again in a day. Like any edition, I need to learn the changes .

Of note, I have printed the data cards which will help me not confuse past editions. The stats changed quite a bit

I realized yesterday I don't take a -1 to hit penalty if a model advances and has an assault weapon.

Heck, I was half way through 9th edition when I learned Storm Bolters were Rapid Fire, no longer assault.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I choose I am participating, but that's somewhat deceptive- I'm using the free stuff to test things out. I've decided to create effective rules for Imperial Agents in 10th before I look at doing the same for 9th.

I will probably buy the Crusade book so I can assess how badly GW mangled my baby. The problem is that the Crusade content that matters most is dex-locked, so campaign books aren't an effective assessment of whether or not 10th ed Crusade is worth playing.

The bigger and related problem is that even if the rules are good, because they're dex locked, some armies will get 3 years to Crusade, some will get 2 years, and some will get less than 1 year.

Good rules won't fix that; only a change in policy will, and I'm not naive enough to believe that is ever going to happen. I might have bought that Kool-Aid in 8th, but we're two editions on now, and I know for sure now that it's never going to happen.

Its a train wreck to me, but i can see the potential.

Im just not convinced they will be able/willing to fix the issues i have, and that sadly includes balance.

I especially hate how they implemented sm datasheets, removing options and combinations and forcing you into certain combinations.

Mostly moving on to hh due to that, ill probably play a super casual game of 40k once in a while but thats it. The only faction i own that looks like it translated well are Necrons, maybe ill finally find the motivation to finish building and painting them

I can run a Cultist army from the Chaos Codex in main 40k without having to resort to FW or using another Codex. It's not optimised in any way but the fact that I can even do it and have a fair whack of unit variety is very nice.

I played a game last night, my Imperial Fists vs Votann
My opponent and I already came up with a few ideas that could improve the game. We're already discussing house rules like twin-linked meaning "sustained hits" and Thunderhammers being a single attack that hits on a 2+ and does D6 damage.
We've come to the realization that we own enough stuff to never have to play in an "official" setting. We can make the game as enjoyable as we want.

Are you at least meaning does d6 MW on 2+? And even then seems like could be even nerf to them

I'll participate but will be implementing a fair few house rules for our groups satisfaction.
Namely having torrent weapons use the old flamer templates and blast weapons the old blast templates.
The old fall back rule for losing 25% of remaining models in squad as well as being battleshocked.
Giving vehicles weapons firing arcs- because screw magic bullets and beams.

I wanted the new Tyranid miniatures. I will always find the cheapest possible method of obtaining miniatures. This box plus the 25% discount I got, plus all the extras I sold (total 3 boxes ordered, and 1.5 boxes aren't for me), means I'm paying so much less for these than equivalent bits sites, Facebook groups, or when GW inevitably puts them onto the webstore individually at 2.5x the price.

Had fun in the 1st game at least. And that was with the boring core rulebook scenario. The mission deck looks to be huge improvement over 9e scenarios at least so odds are better.

Army building is whatever but as I don't play with TFG's the worst problems won't be issues anyway.

I lost naivety on getting perfect edition about 20 years ago so as long as I'm having fun it's good and so far it's been ticking marks. For me it's the rules in game that matters most. Army building is least relevant part.

10th is a trainwreck to be sure, but at least the rules are free.

I preordered the new 'nids for the models, if nothing else. But I'm going to see if I can play a small game or two of it (about 500-1000 pts.).

I can't imagine ever treating it as a serious game that will occupy much of my time, but then it never really did - I'm more a D&D roleplayer than a wargamer of any sort.

It never ends well

Did a 2v2 last night of 10th and the only issues we had were our own fault. We shouldn't have done a 4k game, should have printed the rules we needed, and should have given ourselves waaaay more time to actually learn what we were doing. I certainly haven't learned my lessons fighting Necrons in past editions so that's on me as well.
The actual rules weren't a problem but we're a pretty casual group so we aren't looking for game-breaking combos.

I am enjoying it so far. There are some outrageous bits like Wraithknight that won't make you friends and you should never play them in friendly games, but overall it is fun. Really liking 10th. I also like that with upgrades going free I actually have a reason to equip quite a few of them for the first time in a long time.

It was obvious from the previews that deathguard and admech sucked and eldar were Op.

Then you had some folks telling you to just use lascannons for deathguard and that scatarii going down to a 5+ save was fine as having the same armor as guardsman was somehow lore acurat. Then they tell you wait and see and your just sitting here scratching your head wondering how that can't see somthing that looks plain as day.

Leening twords feth tenth but will probably give it a chance once they fix death guard and admech.

We're about to start a Crusade using tenth edition rules, I just need to source the new Crusade rules from somewhere on the low-low. Cheapest option will probably be buying a Leviathan book separately from someone who bought several boxes

Looking forward to it actually! I really like how I can take the same 400 points and make patrols with dizzyingly vast power differences just by shuffling upgrade selections around. This will be great for our campaign I feel

Enjoy your Crusade brother!

I've put together my first two Crusade armies with the new rules- I had to come up to 525 points which is the minimum points if you want to be able to use the Drukhari Alliance of Agony strat (which is arguably the best strat that the detachment provides). So that's Archon + Kabalites, Succubus + Wyches and Haemonculus + 5 Wracks. No enhancements.

I built the Sisters army first (Canoness + Sisters, Palatine + Doms + Immolator) and that took me to 485. I could have purchased Enhancements to get up to 500 (or at least closer) but I didn't because usually in Crusade, you need to burn RP to get enhancements. So when I found out I couldn't do Drukhari for less than 525, it allowed me to add an Imagifier, and now both armies balance.

I am frustrated about not having bespoke Crusade content from dexes, and about how long it's going to take to get it; I don't really want to start a Crusade without it. When my Sisters don't do well, I want them to be able take the Penitent Oath. And my Archon isn't really motivated to fight if there are no Commorrite territories to win. So it's either wait, or adapt the dex content to 10th myself...

I may take the latter route, but I have to write 10th ed detachment rules for Imperial Agents first. The Ordo Hereticus Chamber Militant detachment rules are already done, but the datacards need tweaks for Hereticus specific loadouts, and I'm adding a card for generic Inquisitor Lords. Then I have to develop their Crusade content from scratch, because they never got any in 9th.

Then the same with Ordo Malleus and Ordo Xenos. Eventually, I'll do it for the Navis Imperialis and the Adeptus Arbites too, but once I'm done with Inquisition, I'm taking a break from writing for Agents.

Let us know how the Crusade pans out- I'm curious to have a player perspective on the Tyrranic War content rather than an influencer perspective.
