Through a trade I am now in possession of some old Chaos fury models out of pewter. I must say it's quite a surprise as these are rather old. I do have some questions about the models:

1.I heard pewter models may contain lead, did Games Workshop ever release pewter models with lead? Should I proceed with caution and is there any way to strip the lead?

2.The models have some paint on them. Which is the best way to strip the paint and not mess up the model?

3.I know that you cannot use Furies in AOS or 40k anymore, is there any other use for them? Like a fantasy game out there that would be good for Chaos furies?

4. How do I go about priming and painting these models? I'm not must knowledgeable about pewter and I'm more used to resin.

Thanks in advance for helping me with these questions, these things are relics but I want to give them a try.

These are them, they're covered in black paint atm:

No idea about 2., but:

1. GW moved away from making metal models containing lead in the late 90s. Furies weren't released until a few years after that policy change. There's no reason to assume there is lead mixed in.

3. I think Warcry has Furies as roving monsters. No specific ideas about other games, but if they're not used as the demons they are, they're easily used as harpies or gargoyles.

4. Rattle can spray primer works fine on metal models (I use GW primer, no idea about others). You'd want to be thorough and spray from multiple angles to hit all the recesses as painting on bare metal isn't ideal. The biggest thing about metal models is that chipping and wear from handling is a concern. The best remedy for that is sealing your painted models with a coat or two of varnish.

Nehekhara lives! Sort of!

Even if they did contain lead (which they don't), you weren't planning on sucking on them or snorting filings off them, were you?

Minis after the late 90s are lead free, but even lead minis aren't a problem as long as you don't inhale shavings and dust from sanding them.

You can strip lead or pewter in any strong solvent, from simple green/purple power/LAs Totally Awesome to straight up acetone.

You actually can use Furies in a Slaves to Darkness army for AOS. They can be included as allies in Warcry as well. Many kings of war armies include gargoyles which are pretty similar.

You prime them the same as reason. For pewter models I highly, highly recommend a rattle can primer, but brush on will work.

Those models were... let's say fine for the time. I think they have a charm! Good luck, and share how they come out.

The Furies - are they silver in color, or dull grey? The pewter-like miniatures were a duller color, but if they are brighter silver they are what GW called "white metal". If you bend part of the model and it creaks, its white metal.

No lead in either.
