hi all,
looking to make a deathwatch veterans squad and am hoping someone can recommend a kit to make them.
i dont care for the actual DW veteran kit, the high collar on the neck bothers me and you only get one of each heavy weapon per box where i need 4.

ideal kit would be closest to making mark 7 marines with 4 heavy bolters and/or 4 frag cannons(do these exist outside of DW?)

i really wish that these could be intercessors as im not a big fan of the squatting stance marines but i digress...

thanks in advance

I think the only place for man portable frag cannons is the DW vet box. BA dread is the other place, and that’s not going to help much.

If you want to go with intercessor bodies why not? Get spare arms/guns/DW shoulderpads from 3rd part or printed and kitbash away. The gear options alone should be enough to let people know what rules you are using on the table.

I believe some of the Horus heresy heavy weapons fit with primaris Marines, especially the shoulder mounted guns like plasma or Lascannons. The arm might be a little bit short but I don't think that it's really noticable

And the DW vet kit is a late-era firstborn kit, so the scale creep between it and primaris is not as bad as earlier ones. I’ve generally found you can use the newer stuff on primaris no problems.

Here is a pic of a phobos marine I mocked up with an infernus HB for a similar question a bit back.

In addition to the above advice, grab a power-armor GK set or bits on ebay, the Psycannon makes a great proxy for frag cannons. (also, frag cannons do exist out of DW, but only on the Blood Angels furioso dread)

thanks all... like brickfix said, i wonder how well the horus heresy heavy bolters would work?

Note the trick is that its a combi Heavy Bolter/Flamer. You can probably bolt the two together easy enough, but I think your best bet is a bit shop.

Also worth noting that you can only take 2 heavy weapons per 5 vets so a pair of kits effectively lets you run a Frag group and an Infernus group. 20 gives you enough for 4 of each which is what i often take these days.

You can also swap out the high collar front piece with anything else in the line if you prefer. Those are very common extra bits (there's even one on the upgrade sprue) so it shouldn't be too hard to come across.

Damn. Didn’t notice the flamer attached.
As far as i know You only get one of each per box so four boxes for one heavy bolter unit. Yuck

It's not ideal, but again, that's a 10 man so you need 2 boxes minimum to begin with. The other marines definitely aren't going to waste. The Shields, Frag Cannons and Heavy Thunder Hammers are all useful, both to fill out the other 6 you need or to start a Proteus or something. It's significantly better in 10th as well since you can just swap models in and out of units as you adjust loadouts.

Where its bad is if you want just Proteus KTs rather than Veterans. Being able to take 4 with just 5 is definitely less than ideal there.

I did my Deathwatch using A Betrayal at Calth Box set (sold the terminators to a friend) and modded the Mk4 armor. They are noticibly larger than the Tactical marines at the time. I ended up getting 16 Frag Launchers from Anvil industries, but it looks like they are not available anymore. https://anvilindustry.co.uk/frag-launcher-grenade-cannon-heavy-weapon

Thought of a couple other alternatives:

Kromlech Frag launcher, which IS still available. https://bitsofwar.com/space-legions/157-legionary-frag-launcher-5902216113626.html

Or you could get some Grey Knight Psycannons and bulk them up a bit
