So i read in the recent article that the HH model will not be getting 40k rules. Little bit of a mind fart moment on my part and a need to release some quizzical frustration lmao
I mean... why? I ask that question based on the premise that he will NEVER get the rules.
1. We know he's active in the 40k universe via fluff
2. They can sell more
3. The model is ready and in production
I can see they may wish to have a 40k unveiling at a later date and saying he won't get the rules is a good way to stop people bellyaching about WHEN that might happen; however, it's just so stupidly obvious isn't it?
I also can't see why they'd necessarily need to make a different model for 40k, either? Unless he's been produced in resin ofc...

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

This is Fulgrim in the early days of Daemonhood.
I presume his inevitable 40K model will not only be plastic, but considerably more demonic and less human in aspect, as the 10,000 years of corruption take their toll.

Does being a daemon prince for longer make you 'more daemonic'?
Angron didn't seem to become more daemony over time, for example, nor do any of the other daemon princes which we've seen the transformations of - they seem to ascend into a fully daemon prince form.

Never say never. A PDF can be made at any point.

It's a HH model and GW wants people to have two very distinct model collections for each game.
I also can't see why they'd necessarily need to make a different model for 40k, either? Unless he's been produced in resin ofc...
Release this Fulgrim and make money off it, then maybe release another Fulgrim later that's different. Guilliman and the Lion both have models in 40k and HH for example.

I’m expecting them to be noticeably different in size. Because you can just do more with plastic than you can resin.
Also, on appearance? I’m not aware of any lore which suggests a Daemon Prince is of fixed appearance. Unlike Greater Daemons and Lesser Daemons, which are sliver’s of the god’s own being, and filtered through the perceptions of their foe? Daemon Princes retain at least some sense of self, on account they still know they used to be mortal.
And so there is room for them losing ever more or whatever remained of their humanity (or species equivalence) over their existence.

Lord Clinto wrote:And, this situation fits with GW's 10th mentality towards HH stuff in 40k anyway.
You mean FW mentality, because they have been sabotaging their flagship game for ages now to spite GW. See say Sanguinary Guard, unit that plays massive role in BA Heresy books, has plastic models that are explicitly wearing relic HH era suits, unit whose leader is one of the most important BA characters in the story - yet, they don't exist in the HH game, because then FW team would need to support that yucky GW plastic that makes most of their resin units like a joke in proportions and detail (never mind no miscasts and ease of assembly) despite dating back to 5th edition. Go figure. And that is far from only such example, just the most famous one.
Then when it comest to primarchs, you have complete lack of rules for daemon forms of Angron, Magnus and Mortarion, despite having really nice plastic models that are heavily based on HH art and should be perfectly fine additions to the game - yet nope, no rules for you, because frak you. Or something
This is especially comical given the focus of 2.0 on Siege of Terra - want to replay Khan vs Mortarion? Sanguinius vs Angron? Vulkan vs Magnus fights that were heavily hyped in the books? LOLno, we don't do that here, people might actually then buy high quality, well cast, no warping shiny centrepieces for a fraction of the price of resin gak (which would be a conspiracy theory if not for FW team making all SM Heresy tanks terrible in rules as soon as GW took over their production, funny that, must be a totes coinkydink, eh?)
Compared to above petty spitefulness, GW attempts to limit models with broken gak rules that thanks to FW ineptitude ruined the game for multiple editions (and even in fluff, are extremely rare, treasured relics that only rarely see actual combat) isn't even remotely in the same universe

Judging by trends, we're also not likely to see plastic Fulgrim until the late 2020's if not almost 2030.
I say this because outside of the initial influx of primarchs (Guileman, Magnus, Morti) we didn't see another for six years. So it doesn't seem likely Fulgrim is right around the corner.
But this is GW we're talking about, so I could have to eat those words tomorrow.

and with the exception of the death guard, generally a primarch tends to be released in the "big edition ending event" Magnus and Gulliman where both introduced tail end of 7th, angron and the lion, tail end of 9th.
So yeah stands to reason that we'll see the EC's at the tail end of 10th at the earliest. eaither a new codex for 10th right at the veeeeery end of the edition, or a brand new army in the 11th edition starter box.
but that's really a "earliest we'll see it"

Because GW (and/or certain influencers in this hobby) have successfully convinced a large number of newer hobbyists that counts as and conversions are not a thing and only "official" models can be used 1:1 with their datasheet. I see this all the time on places like Reddit where people fail to see they can use something as something else with little controversy, see also the small boxes GW released at the start of 8th. I have seen no end of threads of people getting a second hand Lord Felthius for example and then saying they need his datasheet, only to be met with the (correct) reply of "Dude, he's just a LoC. That's what you use him as." This thread on here on using a Deimos Rhino is what I'm talking about. There is nothing, nothing stopping you from getting that Fulgrim model and using it as a DP, a KoS or any other statline you find appropriate.

Not only that, but they've brainwashed these people into thinking that the only valid version of a model is the newest one.

Absolutely, I've got a friend who runs a Slaneshi Demon force in both 40k & Sigmar. He 100% plans to have a brand new winged demon prince as soon as that model is released.

Oh boy, that's where you're wrong. I see many a thread on Reddit (where else), where people are convinced they can use any old model so long as it is on the correct base. I see this "fact" is particularly egregious in the AoS community. No, you can't put a 4th ed Verminlord or Nagash on the current model's base and call it a day (I'd say building up the base with terrain to match roughly the height of the current one is a good compromise). That is quite literally MFA...

It's almost certain we'll get Fulgrim and the Emperor's Children Codex in 10th at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to the World Eaters Codex and comes out right before the switch to 11th though.

Either way I don’t think this model matches the description of fulgrim in the recent Fabius Trilogy.
Wether we get EC in 10th will probably depend on how well WE sell but also the CSM codex will make it it clear, whenever that comes out.

We just got Angron and the Lion. I doubt we'll see another until the end of 10th/beginning of 11th. the 2024 Summer Campaign maybe, but I'd expect most likely the 2026 Summer Campaign assuming the edition lasts 2-3 years.

I don't see anything in the rules stating that the most recent version of a model is the only one allowed for play, or even what base size is required. Putting a legacy model on a newer base is a courtesy.
Unless you're willing to personally re-buy and re-paint all the older models in your opponent's army so that they can have the modern equivalents because GW insists on writing rules that make 'modeling for advantage' a thing, you really don't have a leg to stand on here.
