Like many folks, I have a pile of grey plastic that just needs bloody painting already. I've been working on a single gang on and off since 2017 and am still not done yet. Yes, I'm a total casual amateur etc. But it's got to the point where I have enough need to get at least some of these things done that I'm starting to seriously think about saving up just a little $ for someone to paint up some of this grey plastic (or resin).

The problem is, short of maybe Siege Studios (which I looked into; hundreds of dollars for like, a group of 4 Necromunda Hive Scum for their lowest-tier paint job...), I really don't know where to look. And I would like to shop around for someone who is reasonable and has a style I like.

I'm not ready to actually pull the trigger right away regardless, but is there anywhere I should start shopping around for Warhammer commission artists, or things I should know before starting?

You could try asking around at any local clubs or local face book pages, there's always people willing and able to paint stuff for a price. Obviously if you want higher quality work you're going to be paying more for it, but if you only need some paint slapped on to get rid of the grey then that will drop costs considerably.

Absolutely. Most cities or stores have a facebook group or dischord channel, that's a good place to start. Dealing locally is nice because it cuts down on shipping, although you are then limited to the styles and qualities available.

Commission painting is like any other type of freelance work, in that you have three variables: quality, cost, and speed. There's no such thing as somebody good and quick and cheap. But working locally you might move to the front of the queue.

One final thing: even for commission painters, painting full armies takes a lot of time. Most don't do it for their primary income (or if they do, they charge what a full time worker would get), so expect some patience.
