Day 57
It’s……another Dreadnought! In a complete surprise to no-one who’s been following the thread.
Twin Autocannon this time, and definitely working at a faster pace. Pretty much 50% of the metallics on this particular bad boy done.
Wee bit tricky get into the crooks and Nannies, but got them all the same.
Should have him done over tomorrow’s lunch break, and will make inroads to the third tomorrow evening.

Oh good sir. You underestimate my pile of opportunity.
Hundreds of pounds worth of terrain, a near complete set of HeroQuest and its expansions, with another releasing soon.
Plus two each of the new boxes for Legions Imperialis arriving this weekend.
Not to mention the second Leviathan, 6 Jetbikes and a Land Raider Proteus yet to be built.

Awww shucks.
Key is to just commit to doing at least a little each day. Could be undercoating, could be doing half a model in base colours, a wash or what have you. Bit by bit it comes together.
Though I’ll admit I did go a bit mental with the Tactical Legionnaires, as I had been expecting them to take about a month.
Also done a bit more on the Dread, and revisited the first one to break up the black of its frontage. Painted some spot colours of Gun Metal, and the abdomen bit in Gun Metal too. Much happier with how it now looks - but it does need a wash to bring back the depth.

Definitely makes tackling the pile easier when you are in the mindset of doing at least a little every day.
As you've proved it's amazing how much you can get done this way. I always found it more rewarding and enjoyable doing a little regularly and frequently rather than try to do everything at once.
Dreads are looking good and I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Different sarcophagus decoration on this one, which was quite good fun to paint.

That’s his metallics done.
The paint has misbehaved tonight, going oddly gloopy in places, despite me thinning it. Hopefully once I’ve done the old Nuln Oil it won’t show as much, but still a pain in the bum.

Looking at them, decided I really needed the extra detail on the torso. And so I went into the room o’bitz, and dug out my Sprues.
All my Dreadnoughts now have some kind of chest decoration.

Ta! Once the Dreadnoughts are done, just the tanks and Jetbikes (not yet assembled) to go.
Contemptors should be all done by the end of the week (three largely down, four to go).
I may then go back to my Legions Imperialis, as I get my new toys this weekend. After that? Deredeo and Leviathans, which I reckon will take a little over a week or so.

Day 61
Having a break from the brush and pot, as I’ve got new plastic glue at long last, with a second bottle from Upgrade Gaming Dover* tomorrow.
So I built the first of 6 Jetbikes. Being all sensible and the really well designed (seriously. Goes together like a dream!) the Multimelta isn’t glued in. Totally unsure what my usual loadout will be in the end, but at least it’s a doddle to keep one’s options open.

Day 62
Getting my Epic Build on. First of six Spartans assembled. Really lovely kit, but careful on those Lascannon arrays. I managed to mangle a barrel on the first I tried to clip off the sprue.
Best bit? Engine block is a single, glorious piece.

that makes my backlog of 78 soviet winter soldiers, 3 weapons teams, 2 artillery teams, 1 Kv-2, 20 cultists, an entire 1000 point ork army that needs to be repainted, Land raider proteus, 14 battlemechs, 1 chaos sorcerer, 1 dark apostle,1 contemptor dreadnought, 1 lord of plagues, 2 hormagaunts, and 30 chaos marines look like a molehill.

All issues caused by being a formerly reluctant painter.
But now I find it relaxing. And provided I do at least a bit a day, the pile reduces. Even bought a new brush today, as my detail brush has pretty much had it.

yeah my new years resolution (aside from actually remembering to do one) is to paint more often. I heavily admire your ability to hobby every day and go thru Dakka's image uploading system as much as you do in the thread. Good stuff.

For painting Contemptors, not really. I found they took Army Painter Speed Paint nicely, which saved a lot of time.
I went back to the first three I did to add some detail bits, like the pectoral shield dooberries. Painted red and white, they really broke up a boring, solid black frontage nicely. But you can achieve the same thing with brighter paintjobs depending on Legion, and Transfers.
Other than that, the sculpts have little “cut outs” on the armour, which I painted metallic, again to break up the monotony. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, having my cabinets is a genuine inspiration to get stuff done. Unpainted grey stashed in a box is not the same motivator as unpainted grey in a proper display.
I’ve currently got 50% of the shelves in my first cabinet filled with painted models, and the Dread shelf is well underway.

thank you for the tips
by the way, I see that you have given one of the Dreads a power fist with the curved blade fingers. How did you glue them in? I have an unbuilt contemptor and can't tell the parts apart as they have been cut out and they dont seem to fit in the fist. Would you have any words of wisdom and/or personal experience to share in how you built the kit?

I built them over a year ago, but I’ll give it a go!
I don’t recall them being slot specific. And I couldn’t tell you if they’re interchangeable over the two fists the full kit comes with (as opposed to the one in the AoD boxed set).
Only thing I can recommend is assemble most of the fist, and let it dry. Then a bit trial and error to see if any finger fits better. Automatically Appended Next Post: But…if you have the instructions? I should have enough Sprues that I might be able to help you identify which finger is which?

Thank you. I needed to use them because my IW helbrute needed to look more enlightened. Unlike your un-chainy, un-spikey, un-cool, black templar ripoff corpse worshippers.
