I’m slightly freaked out that pic is from an otherwise complete sprue! Time to do a stock take and get them on the second hand market. They’re doing me no good just sitting there.

As a hoarder, I tend to keep even the frame of the sprues just in case. Actually served on a few occasions as well for terrain.

Day 63

Yesterday’s epic scale haul now fully assembled.

Two more boxes of the Legion Support to come, hopefully next week. For now this lot are going in the cabinet, as I’ve decided I want to finish painting my Contemptors before I return to painting my Epic models.

And that’s all my Dreadnoughts built.

I’d add an ominous “for now”, but realistically that’s me done in terms of buying more of them. At least until I’ve got some games under my belt.

Also, magnetised his arms, so I’ve got some flex on these lads.

Going the doc way now, you've convinced me, and now I'll set on doing a little hobby every week end I'm home. Should ramp up my painting pace as well! Started with my manticore.

Think I’m gonna build the Land Raider Proteus today. Probably the Explorator variant.

It’s a Land Raider Proteus Explorator.

Because nothing says sneaky like Scouting for Heavy Armour.

Went with cupola Heavy Flamers, as I reckon close range literal fire support will pay dividends when it’s right up the enemy’s nose from the get go.

First box of Jetbikes now assembled.

Arms are a bit of a sod, but got there. Weapons aren’t glued in so I’ve got options between games.

Going to use magnets on the guns, Doc, or are they a cozy enough fit without?

Just about snug enough to not need them, and it should snuggen up just enough once sprayed.

Think I might prefer Plasma Cannon on them overall. Nice, speedy point defence ideal for overwhelming small squads with template spam, and probably efficient enough to put decent sized dents in large, spread out units. Needless to say anything bunched up in gonna be covered in Plasma.

Day 65

Built the forth Jetbike, and got the Deredeo and Leviathans sprayed up.

Tomorrow I’m gonna get back to the Contemptors.

Back to the Contemptors. Metallic base coats done on this guy. Next up are the reds, including the cowling on the Conversion Beamers. Then the usual wash and general tidy up.

Day 67

Contemptor No. 6

Assault Cannon, Chainfist and Havoc Launcher.

Metallics mostly done. But after a wonky day at work, including last minute news I’m not sure I can be arsed with much more tonight.

Bright side is the work news means I can now freely take annual leave. Which I may do for tomorrow.

It’s the final Contemptor. Do dee do. Do Dee Do Do Do.

All basecoats done. Once dry? Wash, top coats, done for now.

Leviathans and Deredeos are next.

Project Dread is beginning to draw to a close with the big boys now drybrushed. Next stage is of course the Grim Black.

I’m pup sitting most of tomorrow, so looking to break the back of these big boys over the course of today.

Tidy up and finished the metallics. Dunno how I managed it, but I’d missed some pretty big bits that should’ve been done last night.

But they’re done now. And I took the opportunity to tidy up the inevitable splodges. Also I’m quite taken with the Citadel Starter Brush. Something I probably got from the Conquest Partwork. It’s long, thin and has stiff bristles (stop laughing. Dirty) and it’s proven pretty much ideal for getting to finer details which are otherwise hidden or rendered inaccessible by the model itself.

Should have this mad lad done by the end of tomorrow. For tonight though, it’s washes once the extra metal is all dry.

Should have that one finished this evening. I got some red down on the main hull last night, and now need to consider what colour is going where on the Missile Launcher.

It’s an odd piece as it’s so large, so could unbalance the whole scheme if I’m not careful. And sure I could just redo it back to the black, but I’d rather get it right first time.

Gonna call this lad done.

Was fun to paint as it’s got quite different detail compared to a Contemptor. Plus the crest and scroll on the upper hull really breaks up just how black it is.

I will need to revisit the missile launcher at some point to pick the missiles back out. But I simply cannot be arsed with that at this point in time.

Day 74

I was gonna do the other Deredeo, but changed my mind last second and got most of the metallics down on the first Leviathan.

This one might be one I keep adding to, as the front just doesn’t have the same amount of detail as the other chassis. But as ever judgement will be reserved until I’ve got the reds down and the weapons painted too. For instance, I may redo the hull extension trim on the shoulders in red, as that may just balance it out nicely.

Further work on this chunky lad. Will get the washes down tonight as well. Maybe the red base coat too.

It’s a nice spot colour, and will of course get its second coat before it’s done.

Unsure how I want to do the lights on the sarcophagus though.
