That does look interesting.

Evidence that this may be a Cloverfield film.

JJ Abrams involvement gives me pause.

I love the subversion of expectations here. It starts out very much like an A24 horror ad, with the magic circle and the dog, then delivers the twist: it’s secretly about sexy, sexy stonework.

Don’t get too excited. It has nothing to do with Dragonball Z. (Until you get to the shocking twist ending.)

There is a upcoming film using starring an AI generated Val Kilmer. If you want to look it up the title is As Deep As The Grave.

Val Kilmer Resurrected by AI to Star in ‘As Deep as the Grave’ Movie — First Look (EXCLUSIVE) = Variety

Even though he didn’t shoot a single scene, Voorhees has been able to realize his vision of having Kilmer in the ensemble by using state-of-the-art generative AI. And he’s done it with the cooperation of the late actor’s estate and his daughter Mercedes (Voorhees says Kilmer’s son Jack is also supportive).

“His family kept saying how important they thought the movie was and that Val really wanted to be a part of this,” says Coerte Voorhees. “He really thought it was important story that he wanted his name on. It was that support that gave me the confidence to say, okay let’s do this. Despite the fact some people might call it controversial, this is what Val wanted.”

William Hughes AV Club]
The fact is, of course, that nobody would be paying a fraction of this attention to As Deep As The Grave—about early female archeologist Ann Axtell Morris—if it weren’t now being used as the stage on which Voorhees was very publicly accepting the dare to go full-on ghoulish with AI tech. Someone was going to do it, selling whatever genuine interest that their film could have drummed up on its own merits in favor of acting as a carnival sideshow; Voorhees is just the one who got there earliest, and with a dead movie star’s family on board to support it. The upshot is that the trailer (which also stars the actual human faces and bodies of Abigail Lawrie and Tom Felton, who presumably worked very hard to make it) is now almost impossible to parse through any other angle; turns out, once you create a puppet of a famous dead person and then parade it around on stage, the taste it leaves in the mouth overwhelms and obliterates everything else.

I’ll be skipping that one.

I’m not necessarily against digital resurrection. For instance, Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One, and General Organa in Rise of Skywalker. Both were done for solid narrative reasons and with the full blessing of the family.

But get your AI out of it. If you need or want to recreate an actor? You do not need AI to do that.

Rise of the Conqueror

I still remember the first time the Timurids showed up in the eastern parts of the Medieval 2 map and just laid waste to all of the regions I just wrested from the Mongols. Had always been somewhat fascinated with Tamerlane ever since.

I'll give it a rent, only because I like historical war/origin stories for the most part, but I'm expecting some massive historical inaccuracy, highly suspect battle sequences and a healthy dose of revisionism. Dude's wars may have killed as much as World War 1, in some sources. Reminds me of 2007's Mongol, which I did like.

I'm so happy this is seeing the light of day. I was so bummed when it got squatted during the Zaslav purge and assumed I'd never get to see it. Looks great and if you haven't, take the time to see "The Day the Earth Blew Up" which barely made it out of the same mess and is an absolute treat of a classic Looney Tunes film.
