Big guy looks excellent, the blight dudes... something is off about them, the armour looks too thin perhaps?

When Cursed City came out I picked up a few spare sprue off ebay for the Soulblight half because a good chunk of those models were core style models that either outright remain in the army (zombies) or are so close they count as easily (skeletons). Plus the heroes are easily used as generic lords and characters just with more flare. A few of the monsters you'll lose when Darkwater eventually goes off-sale; but even then they might return as named or new monsters.
Considering the Demon Prince is a staple that's easily a big model you could use over and over in the future.
So yeah a lot of good coverage for the game and also for adding to a Nurgle army

Overall fantastic release for Nurgle. Ten years ago this would've been a dream come true, nowadays I just can't commit to another side project. Or can I?

This sums it up. Personally I think the design looks like AoS 10 years ago. The way Festus is just buckets of random junk poured over a (perhaps) decent base concept. It ends up with models that dont make sense.
I feel its a step back from the exelent and more balanced releases we have seen for last two years or so. Im not impressed.

I disagree. Guy's meant to be some master chemist. That was festooned over his old foot model, this is just the growth of that. And now Horticulus has a slug buddy.

They are still under the AoS umbrella, so some of this in unavoidable. That being said, the knight variants really work for me, both mounted and on foot. If you compare them to some of the 40k nurgle stuff, they are a lot more restrained.

Yep same thing they did for Cursed City for the Soulblight. Then when Darkwater reaches the end of its lifespan those models might get some retired and might keep some.
CC is going through that right now; a selection of them remained and a selection of them vanished. Though even those that vanished a good few can still pull duty as counts as infantry/leader models without any issue. If you're a big Nurgle player having two sets of the boxed set or hunting down the sprues on ebay during the launch period can be a very viable tactic to some cheaper than normal models.

Nurgle dudes from AoS and Quest game are awesome
Except for Blight Kings, that’s… an unnecessary “improvement”.
They just look like fat guys with axes now, closer to ogres. And the previous versions still held up well, didn’t it??
The sword version works, but damn.. I regret not getting previous blight kings now.
Glad I have old Festus as well. I like the new one, but now I can have both versions - before and after the ascendancy
The Pestigors from Darkwater look better out of the two, but both versions are pretty cool. TOW reassessment will be upon them for sure.

The old blightkings are shown as coming for the next AoS hachette magazine, so either they're not going away or you at least still have the ability to pick them up (and for cheap)

Interesting that the Pestigors from Darkwater and the new ones from AOS look so different. They're not even variations on the same theme, they seem to be two entirely different takes from the concept art up. Leftover old Pestigor models perhaps?
And the Blight Templars from Darkwater look great, but the new Blight Kings look very meh. Good product synergy though, if you have people buying Warhammer Quest and only be one Spearhead away from having a decent sized AOS force that's good marketing.

Cursed Crusade was a little odd like that too - they had generic zombies from the Soulblight army, but then they had a whole squad of semi-unique skeletons that were almost but not quite the same.

The new direction they are going with Nurgle seems to be less about disease and more just…fat.
The two obviously go together, but I preferred both as a good mixture of life/plenty (fat) with death (disease).
The new blightkings are a miss for me. They have too much of a video game, dark souls kind of aesthetic with big wide bodies, tiny little feet, no eyes, cartoonishly large weapons, etc.
I picked up my first box of the old blightkings after seeing the new ones lol. Didn’t want to miss a kit that so many hobbyists praise for its variety. The new kit is likely to be monopose with no real options and cost the same or more.

Must say that I find it really surprising that they remade the blight kings. That kits was still insanely godd looking, and not even that old. Yeah, it almost seems like they put 2 sculptors in ocmpetition and decided to publish both of their works... really weird

They could do some wasting disease style models as well. Disease isn't always bloating.
The juxtaposition of fat dudes with haunting withered guys would be interesting. If would stop the over flanderisation of nurgle just being fat guys

Nurgle aesthetic has been flanderised to boring repetitiveness for decades at this point. For some bizarre reason someone in the studio seems to be really enamoured with, thus the nauseating repetition of the same jolly fat pustulant guys ad infinitum.

It seems like Nurgle is the only Chaos faction allowed to have mutations anymore. Can the Tzeentchian mooks not scrape together a single tentacle between them?

Don't think they announced that at the launch however.

While I have literally zero interest in anything Nurgle, I am glad to see they're finally releasing a demon prince model for Festus. He ascended a decade ago during the End Times, so this is LONG overdue.

The paintjob does not fit well with the new Nurgle models. I do love the giant Plaguebearers, though. I'm disappointed that Festus no longer has his blue Nurgling with him anymore.
