Subject: Titus general release - "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – Recruit Edition brings Lieutenant Titus"

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – Recruit Edition brings Lieutenant Titus to the tabletop In celebration of the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, a special board game is arriving featuring none other than Demetrian Titus himself. The Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Recruit Edition is designed to introduce new hobbyists to the world of Warhammer – especially those that want to recreate the battles of the latest video game hit. This is a two-player game lasting around 30 minutes that pits Lieutenant Titus against 10 Tyranid Termagants and a Ripper Swarm. It includes these 12 miniatures, as well as five paints (Macragge Blue, Abaddon Black, Wraithbone, Naggaroth Night, and Balthasar Gold), a range of starter tools and game components, and a 48-page handbook. It will be on sale only at Warhammer Stores from Saturday, the 28th of September. So it's the Target Board Game release plus some paints.

Not quite the same, the SM boardgame at Target include 20 Gaunts. Guess we'll see what the price differential is for 10 less models and plus paints and the Warhammer store tax.

The minis on that empty paper mat looks kinda boring and sad, to be honest. It looks like they made a "get started with minis" starter game and forgot to put the game in. I mean, at least add a sheet of punch-out card walls, or SOMETHING to break up that 'toys laid out on a poster' vibe...

Not seeing the point when its basically the 40K introduction set minus the 4 marines with the cool flamer-melta-whatever guns. Even if this is going to be £30( very unlikely ), you can get that set for as low as £34 if you shop around.
If Space Marine 2 is that big of a deal then why not make a more substantial board game? Surely they can give this Titus chap two buddies for more activation, and throw in some Hormagaunts as melee alternatives to the ranged Termagants.

The Space Marine boardgame is also an abysmal game package... it's like two basic scenarios that pit Titus against waves of Gaunts. There's nothing to it and it's certainly not an introduction to the 40k experience or a lasting boardgame experience.

Fully expecting it to cost €50/60 at least given it comes with paints and tokens for the reason of bumping up the price.

A warhammer quest style game with a few different types of marine to represent the different classes from PVE, gaunts, and at least one big tyranid gribbly would've been a great tie-in to the game but alas, GW has fumbled it so you just get the really awkward Titus model and gaunts doing battle on a side of A4

I checked with my local GW store and it was $91AUD, which is the same price as the "Warhammer 40,000 Introductory Set", so basically it's the Introductory set except you get Titus instead of the 5x Marines.
Tempted to buy it because I want the Titus model, but that's a bit too much money for me. That said, Primaris Lieutenants go for ~$64AUD anyway, so relative to that the price is probably fine if especially if you have need of those paints and Termagants.

I was going to pick one up if they were still in stock when I got to my local GW, but by the time I did (around 2pm), they'd sold out - and, from what the staffer was saying, was sold out full stop.
Alleged word from Head Office was they would produce more "if this sold well" - so, I'm hoping for an additional run at some point.
Or at least Titus sold on his own.

Sometimes GW cannot seem to help themselves.
How did they intend for a limited release product to be an introduction for new people to the hobby? Amazing really.
You have a limited time to latch onto people's interest, doubly so in a modern social media/viral driven age.
Was the limited nature mentioned in the Warcom article?

Lets not forget this firms last GW official game bombed hard so perhaps some in GW management weren't sure if Space Marine 2 was going to be another Dawn of War 3 or not when it came to the allocation of production stock.
That or perhaps they always intended the model to be general sale on its own and are just doing this as a short term special set.

I didn't catch anything indicating it was limited in the WarCom article - closest bit I can see to a limit is that it was in-store-only, as per "It will be on sale only at Warhammer Stores from Saturday, the 28th of September."

Try the facebook page of your local store, on mine it says "Available While Stocks Last", and it's on the promotional picture (i.e. probably in the material sent to the store opposed to some manager just making it up).

I shouldn't be having to look at a store's Facebook page, though - that's information that should've been in the WHC article. I'd've said it should've been on the listing on the webstore, but it wasn't on there (which makes some degree of sense, as store-only).

I also did not catch the 'in store only' thing and tried to check the WH site yesterday just because I was curious how they priced it.

Sure, I was just pointing it out so that people don't get sad waiting a year expecting it to become a regular stock item.
I think they should have just done more of the original board games (with 20 termagants but not paints) because that was much more appealing of a deal, but they probably had some exclusivity agreement with the 3rd party stores that stocked the board game.
I'm still tempted to buy one just for Titus, but my paint collection is already too big without adding 5 paints I don't need.
Probably also should have done the other 2 squadmates too and made the game more available.
It's not as bad as Total War Warhammer coming out when GW had killed the game... but it's still a bit of a missed opportunity.
