It's going to be far more than one video game that's already been mostly forgotten about.

On a serious note, it is crazy just how they continue to go from strength to strength financially.

I still remember the first annual report which showed things had turned around after a few slim years.

And for a while now, the opening preamble has made it clear “we can’t realistically expect this growth to continue”. And overall that’s a sensible approach to take. It doesn’t mean they’re predicting a run of losses, just that substantial growth is never guaranteed. Yet, it continues to this day.

But let’s be realistic and reflect a fair amount of it has been luck. Starting with the 2008 Global Financial Crash, GW had just gone through a period of restructuring. Reducing staffing costs, closing non-profitable stores etc, so when the Very Bad Thing happened, the company was already pretty trim. It also shows the benefit of not borrowing to expand, as that’s what did more than a few business in during that period.

Next, whilst I can’t remember exactly which, but they released a well received edition of 40K, just as WarmaHordes completely gakked the bed, and so they hoovered up disgruntled Warmarhordes players, just as WarmaHordes once hoovered up disgruntled Warhammer players.

Then, prior to the pandemic? They went hard on engagement. So just as there were a lot of people stuck at home, a lot of people discovered or rediscovered a hobby pretty well suited to being stuck at home. And, importantly? The financials at least suggest a good proportion of those folk have stuck around,

I’d also venture we’re seeing former nerds who have kids, who are now in turn discovering GW, rediscovering it for themselves, this time with Adult Money. Whilst not a parent myself (and no interest in that), I can see this sort of hobby being good for bonding with your sprogs.

So…yeah. It’s not all luck of course, that would be a ridiculous claim. But luck, sheer, dumb luck absolutely has played a part.

Thats great news I always hope that these companies are financially stable. For the past years after covid and Brexit I keep hearing bad reports from other miniatures companies either struggling or closing.

So yeah GW footprint is taking all of it.

No, its more mundane.
GW share dividends are rock-solid. As far as im aware they haven't decreased since the kirby/rountree handover and the company literally borrows money to ensure its dividend payouts happen on schedule.
That coupled to the way the company performed during lockdowns and you have a very reliable return stock which any fund manager or investor can have a high degree of confidence in.
It doesn't seem to attract short sellers either so you know its not going to randomly fluctuate on anything but large buy/sell events which you get plenty of warning for.
So even at this record high its still worth buying for multiple boring reasons.
