It's easily my LE metal Thunderhawk. It comes off the shelf once per edition. Mostly to prove that it's not just a display piece.
It's not that it's too huge (the FW resin one is actually bigger, as are any Titan) or such. It's that it weighs about as much as a boat anchor & despite a crazy amount of brass rod pinning it together is relatively fragile.
It's a real pita to haul around.
It's also 100% not able to be placed on the table using a flight stand. Because if it ever fell over it'd crush models, scenery, & certainly crack apart.

Pics or it didn't happen.

What, of it sitting on my shelf? Or being used in a game?

So, who on the boards is going to buy one for the holidays, and start a thread on building it?

Well, since it lists "sold out online" for the US & doesn't even appear on the UK site.... I'm betting no one.

While perhaps not as un-portable as other models listed, I will say, the genestealers from the 3rd/4th edition space hulk boxes, while beautiful, are bad game pieces and are not very portable, several of the ones I have, have broken, and one was even totally un-salvagable from the break it had so I am missing one genestealer from my set at this point.

Also, before the upgrade in base size, physically impossible to get them into base to base contact in a game where that’s kind of important. Even on larger bases it’s twitchy.

The model that's caused me the most hassle and worry to travel anywhere with was my warlord titan. Firmly strapped into middle seat in back of car. Put one of my son's on either side as added protection when driving.
I've not taken it out more than twice but it's no fun moving it

Taking an Armoured Company from Florida to Illinois was a nightmare.

Thats why I'm only going to take small armies now, like Imperial Knigh

Sylvaneth Awakened Wildwood trees. They have a tiny base size, which curves around inside whatever you store them in. No problem there
But, the branches... They spread out and catch on whatever else is in the same box. If they catch, they fall off.

I have 2 sets, and I have left the branches off the 2nd set, just to be able to carry them.

Bah, you should always play with Titans.

Remember kids, giant 'mechs are allergic to dust and should be played with at least once a month.

Agreed. "Giant mechs = fun" is why I got into Chaos Knights (and we all know Chaos is cooler).

For me, it is metal foot guard. I have an army of >100 Valhallan infantry and its a workout to carry that much metal to a game. I'm very glad my meta was 1500pt not 2000!

That was the army that snapped the strap fitting on my carry case.

We’d have less rules arguments and TFG behavior if more people had dreadsocks…

I don't think the modern sock can take a dreadsock - the dread would fall through the bottom!

I’m torn between making an “I’ve probably got socks older then you” joke and actually getting a sock and seeing if it will hold a dread.

Weight training is good for the body and mind. I do wonder how good it was to do all those micro-reps when you move metal units during movement or assault phases.

I played WHFB during 6th edition. I had to move 20+ metal models at a time!

If your models aren't stabbing you, you're doing it wrong.

Yeah, I have an aversion to too many spikes as I have the pleasure of stopping barefoot on a pewter dark Eldar Archon.

I have a photo that my friend took as he attempted to determine how much damage I did to his evil model.

I would have just built/printed a sort-of-box for that guy. A (magnetic? Gripper? Base connected to a top with a handful of bars to keep stuff off his point bits. The Phobos Infiltrators are probably worse because its ten of them with two points each so building the special box becomes more involved.

Edit to Add: The ginormous things are pretty easy to point to, but eventually you'll figure out a process, the ones nobody has yet talked much about are the mid sized odd shapes. The Storm Raven and other Aircraft for example.

Flyers are not horrible if you don’t glue them onto their flight stands. And those are set up so they dry-fit pretty snug. That said, they still take up a disproportionate amount of space in the case.

Reminds me of a thread a few years ago when someone was asking about the best army that packs small to take on road trips to hit up random non-local game stores. Fun thought experement, see what you can fit into 1 KRU case (or your own small transport equivalent)

I made a full SM mechanized demi-company list (forget if it was 1.5 or 2k, the standard of the time) that took up the same space that a single Stormraven would.

That's true the Tyranid flyers have huge wings on them which eats up a lot of storage space. Plus the angle is out to the sides gliding style so they really eat up the space fast that you can't put anything else in.

Reminds me someone here did some neat tank support struts for magnets so that you can put tanks and other things without bases into a magnetic case. It was a really neat idea that I hope others take on board.

Magnets are great, but things like a Tyranid Harpy don't have any surfaces to put them on and if you put them on their base for a case you are eating up a LOT of room inside.
