I have reached a quandary with my Ultramarines Master of Signals - whether his floating 3-d battle map should be attached to his base or its own base. Mock-ups of both configurations are below. Currently, I prefer separate bases (it looks more interesting, and allows him to carry a volkite charger). What do you think?

Separate base, so it can be removed as necessary

Attached to his base - his right hand would rest on it

100% attached to the base. His whole pose suits it being on the base with him. Having it separate not only runs the risk of you misplacing it/leaving it behind at a game one day, but also I think you'd soon get tired of shuffling it around with him on the tabletop, if indeed your intention is to take it to games.

Great looking model though! The backpack is ace.

I agree adding it to the base. Allows him to point on specific features on his map.

Really great model!

Cool looking conversion! I'd say on the same base too. How would you plan to attach it? Could probably 'float' higher with a bit of wire connected to the base underneath, maybe have him pointing at something on it then? I'd just attach a pistol holster on him then, if you still want to have the volkite.

Thanks for the comments. Seems as though the unanimous view is that the floaty map should go on the same base as the MoS. I’ll have to find some suitable cables etc to hang from the underside, so it looks a though it’s floating beside him as he walks.

He already has a volkite serpentia in a holster. That will have to do, as I agree with the suggestion that he should be touching the floaty map with his right hand.
