How do!
So having remembered I’ve a Photobucket account, and so can share piccies in the appropriate way, I fancied a “show it off” thread for tattoos.
Bit of a late starter, this is my 10th in total, and I got it done yesterday. Just taking the covering off and cleaned it up. It’s Cernunnos, a Pictish/Celtic god.

Nope. It’s not working. And I’ve no idea why.

I quite appreciate tattoos as an artform, but don't plan on ever getting any. I guess I'm just a bit paranoid by anything stuck to my body with that kind of permanence.
I had a friend get a tattoo of Meatwad from Aqua Team Hunger Force. While it was quite accurate to the cartoon, I have a feeling he might regret having that in a couple decades, especially since it's the size of a large dinner plate.

You know it's odd reading posts from some of the more prolific Dakkites over the years, I would have thought given your mild mannered job you didn't have any tattoos Mad Doc.
I have a pretty simple rose on my left shoulder blade in remembrance of a friend. I've been debating expanding off it with more leaves, flowers, etc, but I have a couple big moles that would be in the way.

Oh I definitely urge caution. I’ve four, now five sizeable pieces.
1 Beetlejuice themed, 1 Little Shop of Horrors themed, 1 is a mashup of a Quintesson, but the three visible faces are all Beavis, 1 Rocky Horror themed, and of course Cernunnos.
All mean something to me, all unique designs.
To each their own, but I’m not a big fan of picking out the book. Though I do have some flash.

I feel like tattoos should mean something special and be important, with that said; I'm going to get a some cross tattoos along my upper back muscles, all my older cousins have tattoos like them and my cousins around my age are also planning to do similar things, 1 for each family member called back home to the lord, I'm even going to get some on my right bicep for each person I save by preaching the word of the lord to keep my self strong in my faith, at least when I'm 18 anyways.

Thankfully, work lets me dress and decorate my flesh as I please. Hence I’m close to a bloke version of Abby from NCIS. Only not attractive, a bit thick, and well….basically we’re goffik and that’s about as far as that comparison works.
But of course, nothing offensive. Not that I would.
Think my next work is going to be colouring in Loki’s helmet (small, charity flash tattoo from four years ago), and get the red redone on my Rocky Horror, as it was disappointingly washed out from the get go.

Arise ye thread of olde!
For today I had my right elbow tattooed.
OOOH THAT’S TART!
But at least I was wuss enough to get the proper horrible ouch stuff done first.
Pics will need to wait some, as this was the first session of a few before it’s all done. But it’s a Pictish design, of sorts.

Call me old fashioned, but since I am neither a Yakuza nor a sailor, I wont get tattoos.
I suppose this could be why my body has already suffered such horrible ailments.. Once I get those new organs, I suppose the serjery scars will do

They’re not for everyone. And definitely Do Not Get One just for fashion or to impress someone.
And if you’re wanting one? Listen to your tattoo artist. They know their craft. They know their own limits. You have the final say, natch. But listen to them.
Why no Warhams ones yet? They’ll come in time. Perhaps little ones.

Can we make horrible suggestions that you'll ignore?

Nah.

Sit as still as you can. Your tattooist should ensure your position is comfortable, and the, well, canvas, is in a workable position.
But they hurt. Different areas, different level of hurtiness. If it’s getting too much, talk. Let the artist know. You remain in control, so even if they say “10 more minutes and we’re done”, if you need a break, you need a break.
Just try not to jerk away from the needle. That’ll hurt a load more, and may mess up the work.
Ideally, speak up before you reach your pain threshold. Consent and communication are the name of the game here.
But as I said, not all areas hurt the same. Joints between bones and muscles are especially bad. And the needle might cross into “well I didn’t expect that to hurt” areas when you least expect it. Take it for the time it takes you to express that.
Trust me on this. I learned the easy way, when my first/second was being expanded and I really needed to sneeze. I let the artist know, I had my usual repeating sneezes, and then we got back to it.

I only have two tattoos.
One of a circuitry and the other is sort of Hellraiser themed.
Would love more but over the years I have had a flare up of eczema that doesn't seem to be going away. This makes it hard to get tattoos and because of medication I use for them my skin is thinner than normal.

I'm firmly in the camp of "No needles, thanks." Plus I'm indecisive enough that even if I got a tattoo, a few years down the road I'd probably hate it and wish I got something else instead.

If you do fancy more? Talk with the artist first about the skin conditions.
It may be an outright ‘best not’. But there may be techniques and specific inks.
I honestly don’t know. I’m only the canvas for my artists.
But it never hurts to ask Automatically Appended Next Post: ZergSmasher wrote:I'm firmly in the camp of "No needles, thanks." Plus I'm indecisive enough that even if I got a tattoo, a few years down the road I'd probably hate it and wish I got something else instead.
Another entirely valid set of reasons not to get one.
I very nearly had the ashes of my parents added to one. Which is possible. But, given neither had consented to that, I chose against.
Consent and enthusiasm are what you, as the canvas, need. And nobody truly interested in tattoos and other body art would even be bothered to judge.
Yes, that is kind of a “No True Scotsman” argument. But given I was born and raised in Scotland, and so am definitively Scottish by default? I. Don’t. Care.
I’d rather give good advice than ‘right’ advice.
