As the Title says.

What we know from GW:

Appears that we are next in line now for release.

Army box set release will have 4 Automata, 3 sorcerers, 5 terminators, 10 rubrics.
Thousand Sons codex coming after deathguard and world eaters codex.
The codex will have a demon detachment like emperors children and a vehicle detachment.
There will be 5 detachments.

New Automata unit can come in units of 2 or 4, has Missile launcher, melta, heavy flamer, and fist options.

What we know from Valrak:
Aka rumors but he’s usually right.

New unit will be 40K version of 30k Thousand Sons Automata.
Army box set release will have 4 Automata, 3 sorcerers, 5 terminators, 10 rubrics.
Valrak believes Emperors children full release is in April. Launch Box in March, depending on how GW deals with the time between launch box and full launch and tries to sneak in a world eaters codex inbetween will probably determine when Tsons get released. Assuming the rumor for World Eaters is true and they’re released in April, we would be late May or June.

Speculation based on grotmas:

Keeping Cabals but possibly losing points based system or points are being generated differently.
Rubrics losing reroll1s/reroll wounds. (GW rarely doubles up on detachment rules that give what units already get)
Ability for whole units to have psychic weapons.(Based on relic giving all psychic weapons in unit +1 str)

Speculation based on emperors children codex.

Force staves going to ap2
Terminators limited to 5 man squads

Weren't there some older rumours from Valrak talking about two different types of automata and some kind of technosorcerer? After waiting so long for a model update for a neglected army without much unit variation only one new unit would be very disappointing.

Question is what will the box set cost? Speculation below based on UK prices.

It contains three known sets, sorcerors (£40), rubrics (£40), and Terminators (£40)

Say automata are same price? £40, round up to £50 because GW. Then add codex at £35.

Current combat patrol £100 (contents £134 value).

So launch box £150?

Hard sell for existing T'sons who already have box contents, but great for new players.

I think I'd have to wait for the individual release if thats the contents of the army box, its tsons, I already have at least 2 of each unit to get to 2k points, I really don't want more duplicates (who needs 6 sorcerers?)

One for each squad of Rubric Marines you can take.

How would unique cultists meaningfully differ from the existing tzaangor / poxwalkers?

The same way Traitor Guard and Cultists do in CSM.

I admittedly don't pay much attention to 40K rumors outside of model reveals, but is the rumor that the 4 God specific Legions being supplemented by their respective demons a hard confirm or still a rumor?

That would go some way to give T Sons a bit more variety with little effort in their new book.

Both. We know EC have daemons in their book, rumours currently say its only in 1 detachment and up to 1k. They're also unable to ally in daemons from elsewhere.

So it remains to be seen to what extend they're integrating and also what that means for daemons on the wider platform.

When was the last army box that contained existing minis? Haven’t they been all new minis lately?

Depends how you count the Blood angels one. It was all old models excluding the characters, but with 'upgrade sprues'.

Prior to that it was chaos marines iirc where it was the new HQ, prior to that the custodes/ork battleforces.

Battleforces are typically existing kits packaged with 1-2 new ones.

'Army sets' tend to include a codex and virtually all new models, although as noted above that can include older kits with a new upgrade sprue.

While automata are fine if it's what's new, I'd be a bit disappointed to get that as the sole new kit for TS. While that kit could make 2 datasheets easily (melee version and shooty one, or two types of shooty, etc), I'd want more actual marines in my army. Melee version (Rubric or Termis), jetpacks, bikes, havocs, anything with marines would be cool.

The rumoured box would not offer much value to me and probably most existing TS players. I have like 60 Rubrics already (of all editions), 15 termis and the sorcerer kit + other characters, so nothing that could interest me there. Probably better getting the book seperate and see if I like the automata at all before getting some.

Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)

Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)
Thousand Sons - 4,000 pts
Eldar - 3,000pts

Does anyone not find the concept of an army of soul automata getting robodaemon automata a little reductive?

This is the Thousand Sons we are talking about. Their army consist of Rubrics lead by Psychers. That’s it. Everything else is not a proper TS.

Does that make the Scarab Occult Terminators not proper TS?

Given their historically small numbers and preference to avoid direct combat, I don't see why they wouldn't use automata. It's not like they just can recruit more Astartes...

Hey, these armies don’t flanderize themselves you know!

Thousand Sons don't need to recruit more is part of their thing. Rubrics reform over time, so it's just a matter of going and collecting them.

I wonder if it's a reference to the Black Legion novels where a former 1k Sons sorcerer Iskandar has a small army of robots.

Not familiar with that one, I just thought it seemed a little pointless given the whole army is already automata. Why not a little bit of variety.

I was just thinking that a cool unit might be unbound thousand sons spirits, like ghost models from AoS with unique movement and attack interactions.

Spirit hordes would look cool.

Surely they can recruit more marines through sorceror progenoids?

I wish some of that AoS creativity spilled into 40k, they seem really tight on the variety.
