Hey there!
Since I am building an Ork army, my models are getting bigger in number and bigger in size. So at the moment I am at the state, that I have to build me a Morka/Gorkanaut to keep up with the power and size creaping
So I bought me the model from GW and unpacked it, without really knowing what to expect - I didn`t really have any idea except for the package artwork on it - so no idea how big it was gonna be. Expectations where kind of high, since I read these machines are the worship of the orks to theire gods and should represent them. But while building it, I got kind of dissapointed...compared to a normal Imp. Knight, they are a third smaller. I mean the first thing Orks would think is:"Must be bigger - and needs more Dakka..."
The next issue I have is the pose. From the Side it kind of looks like he is laying an Egg, or having a dump... His knees are bent so much - not like he is walking. Maybe they where thinking of him letting out the Orks inside in that moment, so it needs to put its transportbelly to the ground. What do you think?
But to me it doesn`t lokk mobile.
So I thought, maybe I could achieve two goals with one modd - I just straightened out his legs so now he can stand up straight and to gain some additional hight, I turned his heels arround. In total I gained about 2,5 centimeters.
So this is what he looks like now:
Still not perfect, but better - now he looks as if he was pregnant...
The last problem I am trying to solve right now is the one with the Arm - its pose doesn`t look threatening to me at all - it looks like a hamster or rabbit showing it`s paw.
I came up with the Idea of making a more human like panjoint, like we have in our shoulders, because I wanted the Powerclaw to be horizontal, so the enemie could see the threat.
This is what I found at home - still need to buy a fitting magnet...
Aaaand to make him even bigger I want to transplant it`s head to the top - because the "driver" in the back is kind of unprotected - if he dies, the whole thing stopps I thought. So I am going to put him where the head should be and the head up, on his shoulders....
What do you think of my conversions? Do they make any sense to you?
Or are you happy with the Gorka/Morkanaut Model as it comes in the package?
Curious if I am the only one who got disturbed by the Modeling on this one

Always fun to watch a mek at work in the shop. I’m no ork, but it looks like you are on the right path. Looking good!

Thanks - I am really happy right now with my choice of an orkish army - ideal to start with conversions - they don`t have to look completely neet...

To be fair, other armies have ways to hide sketchy conversion work. Let’s just say that not every purity seal in my army was awarded for devotion. They help hide a lot of sins…
But orks are the masters of just slap some plasticard and rivets on it, job’s a good ‘un.

Hahaha - I would need a loooot of purity sealsto hide all the sloppyness/mess I make with the models. I think in future I will take my pix with pantyhoses over my lens, like in the seventies - to get them really soft and blury =)

Hey, at least you are still in the build phase taking WIP shots you can correct. It’s when you are taking the final formal pics of painted minis where the camera decides to highlight all the flaws that’s the problem.

Don't think Orks need the soft focus lens....
Love what you're doing. If you want, you can always slap on armour/gear from other factions to cover up holes.
One of my buddies at my old shop used a human skull with a strips of paper as a "Purity Seal" for his Blood Axes.

Thx for compliment!
The only other faction I`ve been allready exploring are the imperial knights - so there are some leftovers to fill in the gap and I used some of the spruces for building.
I really need to expand my ressources as an orkish mek with parts from other factions

The Modelingphase finally comes to an end.
Here are 2 Pics for size comparison:
and
I think the fight will be a lot fairer, once my "Gurkanaut" can stand on his own two feet and is under a cloak of color.
Put the "driver" somewhere he doesn`t die in the first three seconds of a fight, straightened the Gurkanaut`s knees so he is taller, put his head on his body, like it is on a stomper, made a panjoint for his right arm and magnatised it, repositioned the rockedlauncher and his double shootas and twisted his feet arround to, again, to gain some hight. So now, if an Imp. is not standing on rocks - he is allmost as tall...

I never liked the Gorka/Morkanaught models. They always looked like they were resting on the ground and using their feet to scoot them across the terrain. I like what you've done so far, I might suggest moving the rokkits from the shoulder to the empty space where the head was and then centering the head, though.

I read the comment too late with the centered head - it is kind of finished - when I have time I will do some more details and lighteffects, but for now I am done after a two day intense painting phase =)
Maybe I`ll reconsider the position of the head but the hole the "driver" was in before just came in handy to put in a magnet for the head, so I can turn it because I glued a face to each side.
So now I have a Gorka or a Morka, depending on which side of the head I use =)
Result:
Got to admit: it looks too chaotic to me - you can`t tell where one part ends and the other begins. But one could argue that that is the reason for Camo - to obscure the real lines with fake ones
P.S.: The Space Marine was just included for this months competition

Love the "camo"! All it needs now is a speaker that plays "Eruption" on a loop!
