Been Around the Block
|
Hi All,
Thought I might give the 'blog' style posting a shot. Been working very slowly on a Biel-tan army for the past three years and mostly posted finished minis on the showcase forum, but as I am ridicudlously slow as a painter being able to post some WIP photos might be worth a try?
I hope you like what you see and happy for any comments and feedback on my work.
Cheers
Oskar

Since my paint style is that of the ww2 soviet army (dull olive drab and mud), I love seeing other people's paint schemes and styles.
I love your vibrant colors!

Thanks guys! I started 40k back in RT/2nd edition and then left the hobby until about three years ago so my colour palette is very much vibrant old school. Latest project is Fuegans back banner.

Thanks! I was rather terrified when I started working on it as it is incredibly fiddly to highlight all the edges, but as the surroundings are mostly black it was easier than expected to go in with a really find brush and cover small mistakes. I just wsih he only had the symbol on the front as I still have to sort out the back... Lookig at the magnified picture I also realised I will ned to go in and adjust the folds in the flag close to the right edge as the middle ones do not match the NMM folds.
Made a start on his axe now, tempted to try and do some OSL in the non glowing metal, but my trials so far has looked quite odd so might skip that step.

Thanks muette! Managed to find some time today to finish off the axe arm and glue it in place.

Thanks a lot! I have only compete twice, entered the Highlander Award in 2024 (new Scottish competition) and bagged gold in two categories (I'm based in Glasgow). I then entered Squidmar open without success. I paint very slowly though, been back in the hobby for a bit over three years after a LOOOOONG hiatus, and only managed 18 minis so far.

Came close to a disaster yesterday. Whilst assembling the gun arm of Fuegan I managed to drop some fairly diluted grey sprue-goo on his shoulder and throat area! Luckily it appears only limited amount of paint melted and the more grey pooling is limited to recesses which I think I can shade away quite easily. Will give him a coat of matt varnish and then begin touching the damage up. I will certainly remember to never ever move the glue application brush above a painted area ever again! Thought I lost weeks of work in a minute, but as it looks now he should be finished this weekend!

Managed to get him fixed up and assembled, it was a long slog, but now he is ready for the cabinet, but I need to buy a new one as he is to tall for my display case

That's fire. Great transitions and vibrant colours, particularly on the crest. Red is very hard to highlight so that it still looks red rather than orange or pink.

Thanks! Agree it can be tricky, but one thing I do enjoy is that the bad coverage of orange and yellows actually makes smooth blending easier than some other colour.

Thanks Steve! Main secrets are probably very steady hands and patience?! EVen when being careful it is a large chunk of time just spent painting over mistakes. Automatically Appended Next Post: mcmattila wrote:Not a huge fan of the Eldar, but I can appreciate quality painting. A beautiful model!

Truly sensational work. Vivid, clean, great attention to detail. To work up highlights even on the gem settings shows astounding dedication. And finally, always glad to see more Eldar.

Thanks! The gems are something I kind of regret I started with, but I painted every bump on my eldars as a full blown gem so now I think I have to stick to it :/

Impressive as ever, thanks for the WIP on Asurman, its impressive to see the progress. What colours did you use for the green on his cloak, it looks a nice shade.

Thanks Steve,
The cloak is a base of (all Vallejo MC) Medium Olive, then darkened down to pure Olive Grey in the darkest parts, and highlighted by mixing in Golden Olive. You can't see much of the shading from this angle, but will post pictures of back once he if finished, want to push the contrasts on the back a bit more as they turned out a bit to subtle.
Cheers,
Oskar

Amazing start to your plog! Fuegan is gorgeous, those transitions are fantastic. I’d say your decision to paint every bump as a gem is really paying off as well

Thanks a lot! In some ways it makes no sense that everything on an armour should be covered in bling, but at the same time nothing in 40k really makes sense
