An update on this project. Progress slowed due to a shortage of bits, and being distracted by moving house.

The Rogue Trader-style Rapiers are finished. They were way more fiddly than I expected them to be. You probably can’t really see them, but 2 of the crew have scratch-built control consoles.

The Rogue Trader-ish Land Speeder is basically finished - it only needs a targeting optic on the front. I managed to achieve Rogue Trader- style crew poses, although not deliberately (there's only so much you can do with the RTB01 arms).

I only have a Space Wolf Tactical squad to go - unless I think of something else to add.

Just saw this thread, fantastic stuff. I've got a beat up old RT Land Raider in my parent's attic back in Ireland, and I'm going to restore it one of these days!

With all of these modelling projects, I always end up getting diverted into building themed terrain. In this case, I have used some older terrain pieces (to be consistent with the retro aesthetic), decorated with RTB01 bits. I also had a damaged RT Rhino kit lying around, so it became scenery as well. Everything is nearly done and will be primed soon, but here are some WIP photos.

I’ve recently made some progress on this project (family and work issues had been taking priority).

First up, a Space Crusade Dreadnought converted into an RT-style Deredeo. The SC Dread was supposedly the inspiration for the Deredeo, so it seemed appropriate. It looks rather strange, I know, but it seems to fit in with the RTBO1 aesthetic. I added a lot of surface detail, but tried to keep it recognisable. The head had to be replaced, however; although it’s regarded as iconic, it’s actually pretty bad.

The Deredeo will join the Iron Warriors, hence the overall metallic colour. I want my IW to look fairly grungy, so they won’t be in the usual shining silver. I’m dreading having to do the hazard stripes, however.

The Rapiers have also been getting some paint, again in the IW scheme. I’m quite pleased with these, considering they started out as LI Land Raiders. Again, the hazard stripes will be a pain

I’ve also been painting my bespoke RT terrain. This is the wrecked Rhino. The overall rust colour may seem strange, but as anyone who’s watched footage from the Ukraine war will have seen, burned out AFVs end up a blackened orange colour.

And I slightly reworked the Predator, arming it with heavy bolter sponsons to make it less specialised.

A great joy of 3rd Ed Heresy. No more being punished via Weapon Destroyed when you went for HB or HF Sponsons!

Really enjoying seeing your progress on this.

I'm a big believer in prioritizing models you like and then finding ways/rules to play with them. Your mix of old kits and some new parts is really tasteful. I've got similar plans for my big-box-o-Squats though they'll primarily see action in Grimdark Future.

I am slightly saddened by the ruined Rhino though. Surely it could have been resurrected and a 3d print or plaster cast version sacrificed for terrain...

Really enjoying the thread, especially as a big fan of the original 40K stuff.

Thanks for commenting! This sub-forum seems like a bit of a desolate wasteland most of the time...

I love building terrain, so to me the Rhino wasn't wasted. It was also an excuse to scratchbuild an interior.

I think I started this project just in time. I've noticed that there has been a big jump in the price of new-condition RT era kits on eBay. There is only one Land Raider for sale, and the asking price is GBP 750.

Most of Dakka is pretty quiet these days (the sporadic bot attacks making the site practically unusable every now and again doesn't help). But a few people stick around!
