I am wondering if anyone was excited to buy Space Marine Captain Centos from the Warhammer store on August 9th?

I don't play Marines, but he does look pretty cool.

Maybe? He does look cool. And my collection is pretty shy on captains. I think I only have 16? Although some have been retired, and I don’t have a primaris with that wargear. Gotta catch em all! This one has a new hat!

He looks mostly cool, but I irrationally hate back banners.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to hate back banners. I’ve waxed and waned on them over the years.

They make transportation difficult,
You either need to freehand, or paint fiddly sculpted detail. Alternatively use stickers/prints, which can be a jarring disconnect aesthetically.
Back banners not not fit into some views of what soldiers should be using. They are very much a sci-fantasy vibe, not classic sci-fi.

I’m sure there are more reasons, just a few off my undercaffinated mind on a rainy morning,

I just think they look dumb. You have to consider where the damn thing is every time you move, and forget going through a door. Not to mention it feels silly for officers to be calling attention to their positions like that. Remember when Lt. Dan told Forest and Bubba not to salute him, so as not to give the snipers any help?

Feels like the Captain missed that class.

It’s the fantasy thing.

You proudly display your heraldry, so you foes will know you and fear your approach.
You do not wear a helmet, showing your distain of the enemy’s weapons; none can stand against you.
Space Marines are shock troops wrapped in myth. The sight of them striding across the battlefield, colors flying will rally the supporting guardsmen.

Until they cop a brightlance to the chest and drop like a sack of potatoes. But that’s what the plot armor is for. And the Iron Halo with the built in force field...

They were a big part of the early years and then fell out of style. Now are back with retro-callbacks, but not in general use.

From a practical POV, they let you know where the important minis were on the table at a glance. You did not need to lean in and scrutinize the squad to find the guy with the chainsword; the sarge was easy to pick out of the crowd. Same with the captain, and his bigger, more fancy banner. These days you just have minis on bigger bases, taller tactical rocks, more bling.

The Captain?

Not specifically, no.

But. I am interested in qualifying for the wooden dice box! Prices here are Canadian Dollar.

Dice box does look neat, but I don’t need to spend that much cash.

I should probably look to see how much it would cost to just but a non-GW branded one. Right now I just keep my RPG dice in a pencil case, and it can be irritating to fish around finding the right ones.

I'll pass. Nice to see a banner back, though...

Sadly its a Primaris, otherwise would have been glad to cop one. Its a pretty good reimagination of the original model, but for me personally, the idea of eschewing MKVII battleplate over MKX is a step too far

What do people do with these coins, BTW?

I don’t intentionally collect them, but have picked up a number over the years. GW will give you a little folio to store them. When I get a new one I pop it in that and forget about it until next time I get one.

I might get one this weekend. I might have to bite the bullet and buy those stupid HH Armigers. It's the only place to get the HH decals for House Taranis. They don't exist in any other set.
