So I picked up some 3D filament printed terrain for use on home games. It was a really good deal, and I didn't care at the time that it was filament printed instead of liquid resin printed (what I have at home.... Anycubic M3).

So today is a nice warm day so I thought I'd hit it with the first coat of primer/color to get the ball rolling. This stuff was in the sun maybe 10 minutes after spraying and it warped pretty bad. I've since straightened most of it out using a hair dryer, but I had no idea that this stuff was so susceptible to higher levels of heat. Although it was only about 90 deg out side, but it was next to a wall and in direct sun.

So anyway, live and learn people, not all 3d printed stuff reacts the same to heat. So be careful out there, even if your just priming for later.

Damn that's impressive. I'm surprised the ambient temp in your area gets anywhere close to being able to soften filament. PLA seems to survive Aussie summer heat at least.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. It's possible the terrain was printed with thin walls and little infill. I could see how that could potentially lead to heat deformation.

Also, I know PLA isn't UV resistant, so being in direct sunlight in high temps could have been a double-whammy.

I've left some prints in the sun in a conservatory and they warped like mad, and this is in Scotland.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Don't come to Florida. I've seen 3dprinted spears warp in the car on the way back from the store.

Thats crazy. I'd probably be too pissed to laugh it off. At least until the week after where you blast the AC directly onto the models the entire way home.

Using a PLA+ filament will help a lot with this, the higher print temps generally means that it also withstands another 10-20 degrees C of heat before it starts to warp, which usually keeps it intact in direct sunlight.

That same trip, I had some paints get baked. It wasn't a fun time for anyone.

We have ads here reminding people not to leave children, pets, and the elderly in cars.

The one in the last picture actually looks like the warping helped the 'ruined' effect!
