A few AI scrapers have been blocked already, causing barely a blip on the server load, hurrah!

The search engine will be offline for a couple of weeks as rebuilding 11 million posts worth of search is... challenging!

The scraper battle continues, with a big reshuffle coming in about 3 weeks. After that, it is on to the search engine, but trying to rebuild it while the scrapers are hitting just keeps failing, as it needs to run through the entire archive without the site going offline, and puts a lot of pressure on the server.

Why would AIs be scraping dakka? So they can generate images of Warhammer minis since they can't use any Games Workshop artwork?

They scrape everything they can. That's how they get their raw data.

I now want to ask Claude to comment on each 40k release in the gestalt style of Dakka.

I just asked AI (perplexity) who Insaniak is, and it got the name right, but said he lives in Wellington, New Zealand. Totally worth constantly taking down our servers with denial of service attacks!

On one hand, Shame Shame! for feeding the beast. But on the other hand, it's nice to know that it's still fething useless.
