Welcome all to the 128th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.

This month is our annual Halloween Special. Spooks, spirits, ghost, goblins, monsters, kids dressed up trick-or-treating, costumes. Pumpkins and changing leaves. It’s spooky time here in the painting challenge, so break out the pumpkin spice flavored paint and get with the season!

- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.


So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.

How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of October and will end at midnight EST on October 31st. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days

Wargames Atlantic recently released their Survivors/Civilians set:



They can be assembled as Survivors (dudes with rifles and such), Terrorists (dudes with rifles and such, wearing balaclavas), or Civilians, running away with looks of terror. I'll be entering a set of those, trying to escape from all the scary stuff everyone else will be entering this month.

As I did last year, I'll be leaning into the "goblins" part of the prompt. More fantasy miniatures from 1974, though this time from my side of the pond: Scruby Fantasy miniatures.

I'm going to do one or more of the KM Holiday promo minis:

Batman: Red Rain, Bewitched Harley Quinn, and Xmas Lobo. The plan is to mount them on bookends that I've made from some scrap wood at work, so they can also be on display.
Ignore Vader and Kenobi in the background, they're not the toys you're looking for.

Im gonna be working on Dark Reapers - the spookiest of the craftworld eldar.

Ooh, I see some original Dark Eldar and a Rogue Trader Eldar in there, Tzurk!

Good spot - most of the army is a mix of old metal Eldar/DE - with some ancient Elf bits too, like the head of the guy with the rocket launcher slung over his shoulder. Looking forward to getting these guys painted up

I'm in, dusting off this same proof pic for the last time. Other two are now done, fella in the middle is finally getting his time this month:

He's the last one in the whole squad, too, which I'm hoping provides the necessary motivation to get him painted in the next 30 days.

For this month I will be painting an.... undead monster thing from Runar? Apparently it's called Gjenganger. I think it fits the theme well.

I'm gonna go ahead and change it up a bit. Many of you would have expected me to enter something Tomb Kings related, but I'm going with this instead:

This is Morrigan, Lich Queen of the Frozen North, along with her Cold Bones followers and her banner marker (yes, I'm aware it's not an actual banner), from the Godtear game system. Since we are unfortunately back to the five model limit I'll be having to pick and choose the best from among the Cold Bones once I get them painted. I'm going to have to think of ways to add a cold motif to the models; the bases are going to be made to resemble ice, and they've got wisps of fog already sculpted on.

I finished my first survivor--apart from the base, which still needs work:

I ran out of green gluesticks, so melting and mixing yellow/green acrylic and ink into the glue using glue and heat guns.

Made a few little tweaks to the models and base and ready to prime.

A conundrum this month. It's Halloween but it's also Orktober, so what is a person to do? So how about an ork dressed as a pirate. Who doesn't want a freebooter warboss?

Well I'm not satisfied with Harley, there's some really odd pockmarking in the casting, but Bruce has turned out alright. Looks like I'll just be submitting the one. *shrug*

Been working on my entry in between other projects. I have the base pretty much complete though I might change it up once I place the model on it. Just need to get paint on the brush for the rest of the model.

Trying to get in a bit earlier this month with this guy from Soda Pop miniatures. He's been sitting in a tub for years, waiting for me to finally get around to painting him.
I've also made a quick base for him and added a proof of that as well.
