I'd far rather GW did away with rules for special characters and instead just increased options for generic HQs so that you could effectively make special characters if you wanted to.

Agreed, but I think that ship has sailed.

No model, no rules and the loss of points have pretty much killed a lot of what we used to have for options.

Agreed. I kinda hate that I put together a counts-as Gravis Calgar, and I'm toying with converting some counts-as Victrix Guard and a counts-as Cato Sicarius. I refuse to use actual Ultramarine minis.

In years prior I had built a count-as Cato. Might do it again using a spare BGV body and extra victrix HG bits plus stuff from the UM upgrade sprue.

I have the gravis Calgar but no plans to get the TDA one. I’m a pretty WYSWYG kinda guy, but if I want to DS him with a terminator squad instead of his shield buddies, that’s close enough. You see Calgar, you get Calgar. Just not with his new hat.

I already HAVE Terminator Calgar. I'm not sure I'm buying the new one either. I already have a Primaris Champion and a couple Honor Guard that are now Victrix Guard. I may get one of the Victrix for the banner bearer, but that's the only real draw there. I don't like the new Sicarius because there is no helmet ON version and don't really like bare heads. I hear the helmet in his hand is going to be difficult to convert too, so I may stick with the older one, or just create my own from parts.

Edit to Add: Of course I've been toying with a Victrix themed list for a while - everyone in white shoulder pad trim even units like the Intercessors and Gravis and such. So depending on how that eventually settles out that may change. Victrix limited to 6 helps me stick with the idea of Intercessors and the like.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.
