Trailer -

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k6QNeCchyf8

A new hex based co-op beat-em-up rpg lite board game is being released by Atomic Mass Games.

The first Spider-man set has been fully revealed and the theme of the second set has also been revealed - X-Men vs Sentinels. Third set hinted at being Avengers themed.

The first set has four playable heroes and 1 villain that come with Marvel Crisis Protocol rules, the minion models (looks like three varieties from the trailer), only have rules for Alliance. Looks like the second set includes a couple of full sized Sentinels. Models are compatible across the different boxed games.

Most people in comic books are pretty hench ....

Anyway; yes it looks like a nice expansion to the range on offer with those minions. Not surprising as it's a co-op against AI (feels a bit like modern Warhammer Quest in structure) so there should be plenty of low level goons to beat up prior to the named bosses like Green Goblin.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear the get rules for the main Crisis Protocol game, just Alliance, which is a shame.

Definitely a neat side product. I've been comparing it to the Warhammer Quest line and its definitely got potential if the game itself is fun. The Goblin stuff doesn't really appeal to me, but the Sentinel version is super up my alley.

As someone who was knee deeep in mcp. This doesn't fill me with hope tbh
Mcp doesnt need a board game, it needs more common rules development. It needs consistent releases and it needs them to get off their asses and do community organizing

It’s been getting constant releases, basically every month. The board game is fairly big way to try and get new players.

Products were delayed slightly over the last 6 months but that was due to the focus on relaunching Legion. This week they have announced the decision to make Shatter Point a lower priority so that they can focus more on Legion and MCP, so that should help boost MCP development.

I severely doubt it will get new players for a community.

A buddy of mine who loves MCP, thinks he can use it to get his wife and Sis and Bro inlaws to get into it for board game night and that might tempt them to play the full game down the road.

thinks and will are different things. and even if they do, how long will they stay part of the MCP community? will they go to tournaments and league nights?
That is MY point there should be concentrated efforts to do more community outreahc, prize supports, leagues, everything. But they dont do it, a "Throw a board game out and hope" is not what will help

Most game companies can barely support that, even GW barely supports it. Community support is world wide now. The boardgame is better for our store, as we can put it for our boardgame night. We get lots of people coming in for boardgames, seeing the other games and trying something new.
We even got an old guy that is joining us weekly to build Gundam now, after like 40+ years doing jigsaw puzzles. Just because there is bridging when people do come into the store.

How long did Shatterpoint last, 3 years? I give it that long before they can it. Will Shick (head of AMG) is horrible at reading the room.

Sorry I wasn't clear. He wants to turn them from board gamers to Table Topers with just him. He has no intention of his wife going to adepticon to compete with him. He just wants more players in his household.

See, then that IMO is proving my point, yes it will get people "Into the game" but not build a thriving commununity. Which is what we need.
we are no longer in the "Garagehammer" era of gaming(most people dont even have garages anymore!!!!!) in order for a game to survive it HAS to be played in stores and grow that way, and incentivizing people to play in stores is one of the main ways to do it. and convininving stores to allow it in at game nights

Crisis Protocol as a whole or this co-op game? It's a series of compatible board games designed for home/kitchen table play, it doesn't need a life span. If it's only ever two or three boxes, if those boxes sell well, then it's a success.

It definitely gives me vibes of Marvel Champions (the FFG LCG) which makes sense as that game is hugely popular. I do wonder if having to assemble the minis might end up being a sticking point for that sort of audience though.
