Ravenwing Landspeeder was a beast.
Not only a preferable loadout of HB and Assault Cannon? But the Ravenwing rules made it a real terror. Basically just floor it, keep it floored, and enjoy a really hefty BS modifier for your opponent.
With the size of 2nd Ed armies? In just a turn or two, a single Ravenwind Landspeeder could really denude the enemy forces.
It did however somewhat struggle against Tanks though. But you can’t have everything.

I feel like the Power Klaw just got renamed as Dok's Tools since GW doesn't trust players to see the difference on the model. I'm just glad it has a decent combat profile at all tbh.

Thousand Sons faction focus. So, haivng introduced 'non-KEYWORD' terminology in the Drukhari article, now the Thousand Sons detachment has to have (excluding MONSTER units) in its text, rather than just use 'non-MONSTER'. I see that GW hasn't improved on the consistency front.

As a TS player these detachments seem like they could be good. However I am curious how much of a tax the sorcerers will get given psychic ignores modifiers (which still doesn't help the robots all that much with torrent unless it is wounding as well which is not confirmed)

I think it’s only to hit rolls. But both ranged and melee? So no real use on torrent weapons, but can help in slap fights?

Combining either of these non-Tzaangor detachments with Grand Coven will be awesome. Imagine the robots benefitting from Grand Coven's 'doctrines'.

It's definitely changed a lot. I was hoping that 30k would essentially serve as the alternative for those who preferred the old way, but that's uncertain with it now also receiving 3 year editions.

Aside, does anyone else find the current formatting of Stratagems obnoxious to parse?
I'm sure they've done it to try and avoid ambiguity but it reads like something that's been badly translated from another language.

It supposedly means that the game is incredibly complex with over 100 pages of dense rules and contradicting errata.
For those with legal backgrounds, go download all the mtg rules.

Magic the Gathering rules are dense, but they're NOT contradictory. There is not, to my knowledge, a situation within the game that the rules can't resolve. (Maybe something with an UnCard might not be covered, but those are explicitly not legal for play.)

It's a way of describing the perception that modern 40K derives its depth/tactics more from abstract resource mechanics, bespoke special abilities, and ability synergies- all typical characteristics of CCGs- than from core rules and WYSIWYG wargear/upgrades as in earlier editions or traditional wargames.
It isn't really about complexity per se. The core rules of 40K have certainly gotten simpler, it's all the other stuff that re-adds mental load.

The stuff about errata is definitely on point though. I am glad 11th edition fixed the "stand 1" away from a wall to become untouchable by melee" cheese because it was beyond ridiculous to witness.

Modern Warhammer 40k, even the people that likes it, will tell you its a very tactically shallow game.
Its "ingame tactics" dont come from realistic wargaming simulation but out of abstract gamey tabletop rules. Its all about counting inches, dancing, LOS blocking terrain, pile ins, consolidations. Its a ugly game to watch and to play at top level.
It lacks any of the amount of tactics you would expect of a proper squad level wargame: Cover fire, supression, smoke screens, running from cover to cover, anti-tank vs tanks and all the tactical implications of vehicles, morale, etc... plus the fantasy rules one would expect from warhammer: powerfull but dangerous psychic rules, duels and characters dunking on challenges, etc...
So when you play Warhammer 40k in today day and age you dont feel you are playing a game thats trying to simulate a battle (Thats what a wargame is) but you feel like you are playing a card game: I activate my Ballistarus Dreadnought and I use this power on it, he shots and kills your unit, now you'll shoot and kill it on your next turn, trading in my favour.
