It is incredible. Any details as to where it is from?

I can't say I like the smooth, glossy look of the skin over a rough scaled look, but the thing still looks pretty darn great!

I don't quite understand how that thing is supposed to close its mouth.

Agreed with yak otherwise: nice sculpt, would prefer more scaly.

An artist in Utah made it.  It was hand built, a wood frame with aluminum foil musculature. Sculpie then finished the detail.  He originally started scales but on looking at animal pictures decided on an Elephant Hide style.  It was a labor of many hours, and I wanted others to see his work.

Thanks for moving this to modelling. I'm new at this.

I see what you're saying about the Elephant hide and it really comes down to personal preference since there is no such thing as a "Squiggoth" in reality.

So far in the GW canon (i.e. Forgeworld) they've imagined Squiggoths as more of a reptile/scaled look and I personally prefer that look to the smooth skin on this beautiful model.

That thing is a beauty. And while I agree with Yak about the scaled look, I can't help but be amazed by this amazing model.

Wow.

I like this as it looks a lot like an orc that's been fed a few hundred units of growth hormone.

Do not use the CLEAR dice!

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

interesting model. The glossy look doesn't suit my fancy, but it looks good nonetheless.

Too glossy, mouth messed up, and that ruins it for me.

I like the stuff on his back though.

What's he laughing at?

Considering that squigs are related to orks, and orks don't have scales, I think the smooth skin works just fine. I think I actually prefer it.

Yeah, that is a pretty sick model! The smooth skin is different, not bad, just different. Though, in it's defense, I thought that "Squig" was just an Ork name for "Animal, and that "Squiggoth" was just another name for a "big animal." I think it even says that in the Feral Ork list in Chapter Approved and the WD it came out in.
Though, the varnish is a lil distracting. I would recomend going back over it with some matt varnish in places to settle it down a bit. The mouth bit is fun! Looks a tad impractical, but what ever! It is in line with ALL of the other Squig models ever made. I mean, how do all those squigs, squig hoppers and the like fit their teeth in their head and digest stuff? How do they fit organs in there as well? Nope.

I think that's a pretty apt description.

I like this model and think there's a place in my heart for smooth skinned squiggies based on the smooth skin of the squig models.  Well, actually almost entirely based on how great this guy looks

Thanks for showing us!

I find this one allot easier to picture in motion than its scaley counterparts. I see ripple in the fat and taught muscle. Much more lifelike than the scalies. And the whole harness and platform were done really well. It looks functional whilst still being Orky. The only thing its missing is a really really big gun.

I am a bit suprised about how clean his teeth arm though. I mean its not exactly easy to get Space Marine out of your teeth. Especially when you run out of grots to do it for you.

That may be, but way back when, squigs were described as being the product of Tyranid manipulation of Ork DNA. The critters could be taken as part of a Tyranid army even. In recent years, rippers have replaced them and the squigs have become an Ork/Gobbo only unit.

As a side note, the howdah is designed to look like an Orc skull glyph when veiwed from front, back, or either side. To phrase an oft written remark, the pictures don't do it justice.

The mouth is fine - obviously it has just unhinged its jaws to make swallowing a nearby tank easier...

Relapse, You must have seen the model. You are correct about the howdah. The image of an ork skull glyph from front back or side.  The Howdah is actually lashed together, each individual plank. Thousands of  plastic rod rivets decorate it.  The upper turret of the howdah has a large rokkit platform with spare ammo and two loader/gunners.  I will get more pictures up soon.

The upper turret also rotates 360 for good firing arcs.  The orky glyphs on the banners all translate from 2nd edition ork language codifier.  As relapse said, the pictures don't do it justice.

Well clearly there's only one solution- take more pictures for us!  Did the artist give you WIP pics during the commission?

Well, kinda.  That was not the case in the beginning, but later changed when the Tyranids came out I am sure.  Even then the Squigs that you would get durring that plot line were VERY different than the squigs you get now.  I still have a bunch of the Tyranid Squigs.  They look like Jim Henson/H.R Giger creations.  Little fuzzy-lumps with teeth, or long legged eggplant guys with elephant trunks for a mouth, Spider like crustations with snouts.  Not a wink like the big toothed hopping heads that we have now.  And it is not like GW sticks with any perticular arc over another.  There used to be female Orks after all, and Orks would often fall to Chaos.  The only mention of this in 3rd and 4th edition that I have seen is in the Daemon Hunters Codex.

I had some of those critters too.

When you say "in the beginning", when do you mean? The tyranids were in Rogue Trader and I know the squigs were discussed in Advanced Space Crusade which takes it pretty far back...
