This was an idea generated by Malfred on another board, though it does appear in various forms on lots of modeling/hobby forums/sites (Finescale Modeler, WIP, B&C, etc.)

To quote: "At the start of the month, vow to complete a project or two and post the results. Maybe at the end of the month post to tally who's keeping up with their vows."

It's a nice way to keep yourself motivated and to break projects down into monthly, bite-sized chunks, rather than prime a whole army and have it staring at you, like a horde of Morissey fans.

(of course, if you finish your vows wicked early, you can do more, but consider these the things that MUST be done this month)

New year, new vows! Let's start.

SYR8766's vows for 1/08:

To assemble, prime and paint:

Madhammer
1 Driller
1 Blaster
1 Gunner
Kell
Defender
Longgunner UA
Alt Journeyman Warcaster

Chainmail Thalos Pulverizer
Chainmail Thalos Ogre Penitent
Chainmail Mordengard Zealot

Get one 4x4 board finished. It will be dark brown base, a mix between dark green and dead grass and a light smattering of snow.

Also, 2 hills from 2" pink foam, at least 2 forests, and a little bit of general obstacle terrain.

Might be doable. And if so, I'll start on the next project.

Don't forget to post pics of progress/completion everyone.

Prime (tough in the current weather) and paint:

Not very ambitious I know. Being realistic here.

Get properly started on my project in the logs section (entitled "Cadian / Marine mash up" or somesuch). I had intended to have a fair bit done by now but I started a new job so things have been a little hectic. I think I can get something done now though, "something" being a 10 man Cadian squad. Also, participate in the Jan DPM (if there is one).

2: Finish my Archon

3: Actually assemble and paint all the riders for my dang jetbikes

4: Order the last pieces for my DE army and quit spending any more money on them.

5: Visit one of the 10 plagues of Egypt on one of my enemies in a theatric way.

That should about do it for January. If I can get that much accomplished I'll be happy.

vow for january: scratch building is Order of the Month!

one of the major issues I am dealing with is transport. I happen to be on a ship right now off of Inda, and have no way to transport finished models home. I DO have a stack of plasticard, some razors, and a will. so, I am planning on cutting kits out of the card, transporting them home since that will be MUCH easier, and assembling them there. O course, I am focusing on imperial stuff.

1. build/kit up as much of a Warhound as is transportable.
2. build/kit up 9 rhinos
3. build/kit up 9 leman russ chassis
4. build/kit up a Thunderbolt

How's our progress boys and girls?

Me: Madhammer, driller, gunner, blaster and Kell: done
Assembled and primed: Chainmail stuff (taking a break from the PP action).
Pics coming. Status: on track

EDIT: Correction. The Ogre Penitent is done. That leaves the Pulverizer, the Zealot, the Longgunner UA, Defender and the alt. Jr. Not too bad.

Nothing done over the weekend (party!)

10x Deathwing basecoated with dheneb stone tonight though and assembled two DA vets so far.....

I took a break earlier and realised i had painted on the company badge on 20 tac DA the wrong way round and on the wrong kneepad! That wee mistake set me back an hour this evening.

Still on track though.

But progress is good. With a little imagination and some felt pieces, a battle can be had

I've gotta get some pics up.
Chainmail stuff is done and the Cygnar stuff is assembled...mostly. I forgot how much a PITA Cygnar 'jacks can be, and the Defender looks AWFUL despite hours of clamping, using gap-filling superglue, and greenstuff. Methinks he's going to wait a month while I calm down. Should get the other three guys primed and painted this week.

I'm swapping the Defender out for a Bokur I picked up last week. I need him for my mercs anyway.

EDIT 1/21/08: OK, I got the Defender back together in a way that wasn't totally infuriating. So the Bokur's staying in and the Defender's back on the list. And it's all primed.

Basecoated and painted bases on a DA tactical squad as per plan. I decided to basecoat and base a DA dreadnought and a DA command squad too while the green was out!
I've decided to paint the command squad up as i do the tac squad and dread now, and i will leave the CSM troops building until next month (probably)!
Deathwing's ready for final coat and detail but i'll wait until i've done everything else first.
Started work on converting banblade and so far have converted the mechanicus shrine on the back and converted the weapon systems prior to build.

Why dear God why do I always choose red or yellow armies these days? (sometimes both, such as a Howling Griffon kill team)

Anyway, primer problems plus -10 weather plus having no table means I'm behind. Basecoated my models, the falcon is half done.
