In case anyone didn't know, Phil Kelly is a (the?) guest of honor at Adepticon this year.

I'm wondering if someone will actually ask "Why is it that your Codex's are always so much more powerful than the ones written by the other Developers?"
Really sad about this, I seriously wanted to go to Adepticon. I got invited to their tournament and now they've got a developer I'd love to talk to, but I simply can't afford the trip out there for this. Stupid house..... :(

I'm half-tempted to build an army just to take to events at which the designers are guests.
It'd be a Chaos army. I'd use loyalist SM models -- as plain as possible -- and paint them in nice bright colors. Berzerkers would be red, Nurgle green, 1Ksons blue, etc. They'd get a big white capital "S" on their shoulderpads to designate that they are in fact Chaos Skittles. I could hand out bags of Skittles to my opponents and everything. It'd be fun.
Summoned lesser daemons? I'd use miniature blanks, paint them white and write "DAEMON" on their chests in black lettering.

That's an army I can get behind it. Seriously
And I second the need to ask Phil Kelly why his books aren't crappy. And if he could do C: INQ himself, assuming he's done with C:Kroot Mercs now. You know, nice break from übering-up the xenos.

Its even easier than that, gorgon. Just get your ultra, BA, DA, and purple marine friends to give you some models.

I'm just happy to be living in an era in which the designers have "given the game back to the players."
Hmm...Adepticon would be a great opportunity to execute phase two of Operation: Restore LatD. We could bribe Phil into becoming the studio advocate/champion for LatD. That's what we need, really...

Heck, I'd buy Phil Kelly a beer and consider it worth it to say hi. I don't know what a viable LatD list and a couple upgrade sprues would be worth to me, tbh. Pick up a new army and line GWs coffers?
There's an argument: LatD could be presumed to be a player's second or third army, so it may not be an entry level army but it still sells.

I'm talking about an outright bribe. There's over 750 people that have signed the LatD petition so far. If everyone chips in $20, that's $15K. Can't imagine that's too shabby considering a games designer's salary. In return, he pushes the idea of LatD inside the studio.
Everyone wins.

I saw Phil Kelly out at LA GD. Really cool guy. He was asked about the INQ books and whether we will ever see Alien Hunters and he said that if he has anything to say about it we will. As you may know, there is nothing on the horizon for AH or INQ in general so that kind of puts in doubt his ability to influence the release schedule. I really see LatD as the Squats of 3rd and 4th ed. I have seen a lot more LatD players now that they are no longer valid than I ever saw when they had a viable codex.

Yeah, it'd be enlightening. Although I'd rather sit down with some of the ex-designers and get the dirt on some of the stuff that went on inside the studio. There are a lot of apocryphal stories, but it's hard to know what's even partially true.

Forgive me. I forgot that not treating the LatD sub-codex as made of pure gold and rainbows was an egregious sin and that I should be publicly flogged for such a heresy.
Honestly though, I think I've ever only played against one LatD player and even his army could be converted to a "rebel" IG army no problem. Hell, LatD have actually had less model support than the Squats ever had.
But we've been down this road before so that's all I have to say on the matter.

Ooooh, rainbow mutants. Wait, that's a Tzeentch thing.
Maybe we should come up with a list of questions to have Dakkaites ask Phil?
Mine (possibly wishful thinking, but even a tactful refusal to answer might tell us something):
1. Are you only doing xenos codex development, or do you get a say in the marine codices as well? To what degree do designers get autonomy in designing the books that they're credited on?
2. How's 5th edition development going? Is the final version on it's way to the presses yet?

So because you haven't seen LatD players in your group or local area means they don't exist elsewhere? That's a rather solipsistic attitude. DE players are often described as relatively rare, yet I haven't heard anyone suggesting that the army be reduced to a Apocalypse datasheet for Codex: Eldar.
Unlike Squats, LatD had a legal codex for parts of two editions. LatD and LatD "counts as" armies were featured in WD. A LatD army even won a GT. You can see LatD Mutants in photos in the current rulebook. The army had a presence in the hobby whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.
You're not the first person unfamilar with the army to claim it could be proxied as IG. However, the reality is that many LatD armies only included a smattering of Traitors. The LatD list included traitor IG, but also much more than that.
