I've noticed that knowone is talking about looted wagons...
With the previous ork codex I always brought my 1 looted Basilisk. The basilisk has better range and front armor then the looted wagon, however, they are about the same points.
My looted basilisk usually did me well in my games, it usually caused havoc to the other army, and it servived threw many games. For my trukk boyz were usually targeted first, and the lone basilisk was usually left alone.
Now in the new codex you can have up to three looted wagons, weak armour but with all three shooting I can only imagine what kinda damage it could do. I've had three pie templets thrown at me and it always does damage to my army. If my opp. shoots at my looted wagons that only spares my trukks or other way around.

So has anyone tried this, or do you think that the low armour is just to weak?

Well in an ork army you can drop 5 Ordnance templates a turn.

2 Meks with SAG and 3 Looted wagons with a boomgun Will definitely be a distraction from the rest of the boyz.

Rick Priestley said it best:

The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

You're only doing 5 pie plates? My Friend you have not exhausted your resources yet. You can fill your Elite Slots with Nobz in BW with Killkannons. For a total of 8 pie plates.

With regards to the OP, I don't find them particularly appealing because unlike the bassie there is no chance to hide it long enough to use the ordinance more than once.

You might want to check that Famder

Nob section says they can't have the Killkannon on their dedicated battlewagons.

I've only been looking at it recently b/c I can convert the Vindicator kit. The really big issue is I'm now finding it difficult to find the points for them.

They are pretty fragile with 11 armor. I would imagine for them to be a decent vehicle, you need several vehicles in your list to try and deflect some of the anti armor shooting.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

They're alright.
I've run a list with two, where they managed to do some good, and a list with one, where it gets popped on turn 1 or 2 in almost every game. It's other flaw is in the "don't press dat" or whatever the rule is, as it means you lose a turn of shooting and may end up immobilising your tank in area terrain, effectively neutering it for the rest of the game.

There are better options for ordinance in the army in the form of battlewagons, but I still kinda like the looted wagon. I've dropped it from my tournament list though.

It always kills me when modeling goldmines are kinda sketchy in game. Im gonna build one anyways and run it a few times just for kicks.

The difference between a looted wagon and a battlewagon can be fudged in terms of modelling though, since those lazy gits at GW won't get the finger out and give us a battlewagon mini.

It's not completely worthless as some would say, but it is unreliable. And fragile.
Vindicators do make a brilliant framework for converting them though. i have this idea involving a rhino with the top ripped off, filled with snotlings and squigs, with a Shokk Attack Gun wielding mek on the top as a looted wagon too. "da Rashun Wagun".

I'd rather pay the extra points for a battlewagon. But I have to agree with Da Boss that a 'topless' Vindicator would be a cool looted wagon

I ran 2 in my list against Tau and I enjouyed them, one Boosted forward on accident on turn 1 but the other killed mose of a fire warrior squad and caused it to fall back off the board, the next turn they both blew up but i didnt mind because the hammerheads that shot it didnt shoot at my big mobz, so i think they earned there points.

Death comes for you.

I think 2 looted wagons, 2 units of lootas, a big mek with SAG and a 2nd with KFF will give any opponent a quivery bowel

you can add to the durability of the wagons with the KFF giving it obscured... and anytime you can distract their shooting from your huge mobs of boyz or all your trukk boyz, your opponent is in for a disappointing last couple of turns

last weekend I fought an IG army that was all infantry except for 1 leman russ...

the lootas wiped out 3 units over all, the looted wagon killed another 3... but the best was the look on my opponents face as I tallied up the attacks from my unit of 30 shootas assaulting his command squad... 57 attacks (I couldn't get all the boyz in) plus 5 power klaw attacks....

he took it all very well, and when a unit of sluggas boyz with 11 left assaulted a unit of 4 guards, he politely just removed them and allowed me to consolidate into the next unit, saving me from rolling so many dice : )

as an aside... I used a warphead wierd boy, in two games, and in the one vs IG the only good he did was a free waaggh, and the other game, he deep striked me away from possible assaults TWICE... not cool

anyway, I think that for only 120 points each, a couple pie plate layers are a welcome addition

Thanks, Stelek

one of my main problems (probably just from lack of experience playing them) is that I forget to declare when he is moving separate and when he is part of a unit... I guess I should always declare that he is separate, unless I'm hoping for the deep strike...

now that I've read a few more threads on tactics and army compositions, I'm a little more impressed that a decent battlewagon setup can be taken for not much more than a looted wagon...

hhmmmm... may have to get my deathskulls busy raiding and looting

Ya the looted wagon is only decent. It cant sit in the corner like older Looted wagons and bombard. It needs to actually move into position with only 36' range and fire. That puts it in the way of heavy weapons, and with an armour of 11, lascannons are gona be heaidn your way. All they need is a 3 to penetrate.

If Rampage Jackson was in warhammer, he would be an ork.

All of this nay-saying may be true about boom-wagons, however, in a mechanized ork list where your opponent must choose to shoot between many trukks/buggies/bikers/etc. and the wagons, it is a tough call for them. Also, they are so cheap and unreliable, your opponent may very well over-look them sometimes. If you effectively use cover and uncover them at the same time you uncover the rest of your army, you leave your opponent S.O.L. and crying if they haven't killed much by turn 2.

SmoovK, makes a good point about target priority.

Who would you go after first
- all shots at truks, letting the orks hit you with three ord.
- all shots at Boomwagon, letting truks get danger close.
- or a mixture of shots at both, letting some truks get close and some ord. shoot at you.

What would you do?

Trukks. Orks are far, far more dangerous than the pie plates, especially when there's a 50% chance that one of the boom wagons will not be firing. Once you've destroyed all the trukks you can, then take shots on the wagons but the trukks are a far greater threat.

And way more expensive with a squad aboard.

Here's the thing, boss (no pun intended lol) when you have your trukks maxed out, you can't add more trukks. Sure you can add nobs in trukks, but they aren't nearly as point efficient as boys in trukks and will also be targeted by everything. The wagons, I believe, are a cheaper and more point efficient alternative for a heavy support rather than a killkannon bwagon. The s8 is also far superior to s7 due to the instant kill and the ability to wreck more vehicles and can necron squads.

I might agree that two wagons is better than two battlewagons, but at a lower points level, on killcannon battlewagon is decent. The major problem is the short range.

Looted wagon 105 points with boomgun

Maxed out kannon unit 97 points

Both pretty nasty at 36" but the kannon unit is far more survivable

However Looted wagons do have a place in my army mostly as transports for either my Burna's or my T-busta's. Once I realized that a 12 man T-busta or burna with a looted wagon ride cost the same as a 15 man loota squad, i felt much better about my speed freak list. And since I use very old rhinos as my looted wagons they can easily hide behind the mass of new trucks. You will never know true joy until you roll a wagon full of Burna's up next to a unit and start placing templates. "okay I can get 5 models under the template let me roll wounds, not so bad now I just have to do it 8 more times!"
