I think that they made these to be eachothers' equal. One good, one bad. Which is the most useful though? The Marcharius has the better main gun, better armor, and is more reliable. The Malcador is cheaper, and has better sponson upgrades.

Which would you use and why?

Hmm...

If I were spending money on Forgeworld Tanks:
- a Malcador is 65 GBP.
- a Macharius is 85 GBP.
The Malcador is completely ridiculous-looking, so even though it's 20 GBP cheaper, I wouldn't ever bother with one.

The Macharius can be armed with Vulcan Mega Bolter. That's a pretty cool-looking model!

For the same 85 GBP, I can get a new-style Shadowsword, Stormsword, or Stormblade. The mega Plasma Cannon is very cool-looking, so it wins easily on a looks per GBP basis.

But really, for 85 GBP, I'd like to get an Atlas, Trojan, and Cyclops. Yeah, that's the ticket!
____

Of course, if I had 85 GBP gift certificate for FW stuffs, of course, I'd get a Valkyrie. No doubt about it.

Vulcan Mega-bolter. 'nuff said.

Though I'd probably buy the t-bolt for that amount.

Gotta go with the Macharius on this one. Just compare the variants.

Malcador Destroyer (I believe that's what they named it) with 5! Heavy Bolters. Great for killing infantry.

Macharius Vulcan with a Mega Bolter. Awesome for killing infantry, including heavy-infantry in cheesy power armor....

Malcador Annhilator. Pretty good for busting tanks.

Macharius Vanquisher. Pretty much guaranteed to bust even the heaviest tanks.

Malcador. Pretty much just a Leman Russ that trades armor for structure points, and can get an extra lascannon.

Macharius. Side-By-Side pie plates? BOOOM! Dakka dakka dakka!

Though you can bring more Malcadors, given the cheap cost. And that many super-heavies on the board can be great for psychological warfare, if nothing else.

But what lunatic has mass super-heavies? More than 3 of one kind is just excessive!

I really like the look of the Malcador, and the number of heavy bolters on it can make a horde killer like nothing else, but the cannon still gives it the AP it needs to crush some MEQ.
